Received an email from a friend today. The long and short it it... She is dating this guy. The past weekend they were at his place when things started to heat up. She noticed that his dog, a lab, was still in the room. Not only was the dog in the room, but it was claiming "his" space on the bed while the two of them were doing the nasty. At first, she tried to ignore it and figured that in the heat of things, he just forgot to put the dog out. Act two began later that night. The dog was still there. She casually asked if he thinks the dog would be more comfy if out of the room. He replied that the dog thinks of the bed as its own and would be insulted if removed from the room. Which brings her to the problem. She likes this guy a lot. But she doesn't see getting used to having sex with a dog in the bed.

How to handle? Does anyone think that it is okay to have the dog there?

Guess this gives new meaning to doggie style...

I have had both pet cats and pet rats witness some pretty horrible sights in their time! I find it a bit of a distraction to be honest cause they always look at you like 'I know what you're doing...and it's very very bad!'

If it's a major distraction and she feels really uncomfortable, but he chooses the dog over her then I think she may be better off elsewhere.

That, or lie her heart out and begin to cough after a couple of days 'due to the dog hair'. If he still chooses the dog over her health, then i'm pretty sure that's a bad sign!

The man should be considerate enough to put the dog in another room if it is making his girlfriend uncomfortable.

It's not really an issue of whether it is right or wrong to have the dog there, it's more an issue of courtesy on his part.

If i had a platonic guest in my house and they felt uncomfortable with my pets, I would make sure that the pets were not in the same room as my guest as a courtesy to make my guest feel welcome.

It's exactly the same issue in this case. The lady is a guest in his house and he is allowing his pet to make her feel uncomfortable. This means that he is rude and incondiserate and has more respect for his dog than his girlfriend. If I were her I would take it as a warning that he may have no manners in other areas of life and make a sharp exit.

Dog's are a very delicate subject with their owners. If you're not a dog lover you might want to re-evaluate how you feel about this guy. Sooner or later it's going to be a choice between you and the dog. Do you want to lose out to a dog?

It's very important in a relationship to have some common ground or you will be at odds most of the time.

First of all when you allow dogs in bed with you, you are letting them dominate you. On the list of do's and don'ts of dominating this is a don't. However since this dog has made it his place it will be very hard to get him not to be in the bed. Especially a lab they can be stubborn. Easier if she and he move to different room.

Man, that sounds weird. The dog wouldn't bother me, but I can understand her point of view. It has been my experience that in the heat of the moment it would "break the mood" if I got up to let the dog out or in my case, put a towel down. She should talk to this man about this encumbrance and that he should be ready to compromise this situation. He could always let the dog out to go pee-pee the same time every night.

Well i don't see a problem with it, after all it is just a dog. I suppose i feel this way because i have my little dog in our bed all the time, he is only 3 lbs full grown. And me and my bf don't have a problem with it. He usually knows what is about to happen and gets in the floor anyway.

HAH!

Nah, that's kind of creepy having the dog there. It's like having your mother there watching you make out with your girlfriend or boyfriend, and giving a running commentary on the phone to your father.

The dog should be removed from the room. I know I couldn't stand having it watching me.

The guy likes "someone" to watch. The dog isn't going anywhere and if she can't deal with it.....

Wait, this was an episode of Living Single with the girl who played Tootie on the Facts of life. Watch the rerun and do what she did.

Having a pet in the same room is one thing but having it in the bed with you is totally another. I would not allow it.

Not just because of the animal watching puts you off but also because theres a danger you might forget its there and hurt it whilst you are playing around.

my cat usually stays in the room but i wouldn't let her on the bed, let alone a dog. although it was funny the other night when she got into a huff retreated to the top of the wardrobe and jumped on my bloke in the middle of the night - we were alseep by this point and her aim was extremley accurate!
