No. However when you don't tithe you are blocking opportunities for God to bless you. In Malachi God tells us "Test me ...bring your tithes to the storehouse....I will open the heavens and pour out a blessing you cannot contain"

Don't rob yourself and give your tithe to God. No, He doesn't need it but people need it to carry out His work on earth.

Two points, in response to above answers.
1) Jesus did not abolish the law. He fulfilled it.
2) Tithing PRECEDED the law. Abraham tithed to Melchedisdec many years before Moses penned the law.

If God is dealing with your heart on tithing and you still refuse, then you would be in sin.

If you already know about tithing - the scriptural reasons, etc. - and still give excuses for not tithing, you are accountable for your lack of action.

If you forgot to bring your tithe, get it in next week. If someone stole all your money, then you have nothing to tithe and are not accountable.

Personally, I make sure that my tithe is subtracted from my income before the bills are paid. As far as I am concerned it belongs to God (it all does, actually) and I will trust Him with the 90% to take care of the rest.

In the long run, a person is in sin whenever they refuse to do anything they know the Lord is telling them to do. God has grace, but eventually we must get back on track.

That is a matter between you and God. Tithing is an act of faith. Look at the story of the widow's mites. In OT times, it was a matter of law. Now we are releaseed from that law, but what we do with our money is a sign of where our heart is. If we do not tithe, but have a Hummer in our garage and a plasma TV on our wall, we can be pretty sure that God is not at the center of our lives.

On the other hand, God is not the IRS; he wants us to give to him out of love, not obligation.

Not at all, it's those who collect tithes that need to be careful on the sin front.

a lot of people think that tithes are so important well they are wrong.Obeying the Holy Spirit is the most important thing you can do to work for God.Tithes are not all about money .It has to do with what are you willing to give up to do what God would like for you to do.It may be your time.It may be calling someone and giving them a word but God says I don't want your offerings i want you to know me I dont want your sacrifices I want your love.

The Scripture calls those who purposely withhold tithes "...the same as a thief and a robber" and since these are CRIMES, let alone sins, I'd say yes, you're sinning with you don't pay them.

It depends on the reason why you don't do it. If you are greedy and want the money to buy something for yourself later then yes, you are guilty of greediness, a sin. However if you forget your wallet or don't ahve any money in it then its fine. Just ask yourself who you are showing love to... God? Or yourself?

You should only donate to your church if it's small and poor, and you aren't hurting yourself by doing it, any church demanding contributions i would call a "cult" and steer widely of.
