You'll KNOW if you have genital herpes. It is EXTREMELY painful and you'll be miserable. You'll also have large blister like sores that can open and puss.

I was in so much pain during my first outbreak I missed school and work for 2 days. I could hardly sit or walk around. And, when the doctor looked at me and gave me pap smear I started bawling because it was so painful.

If your mom won't listen to you then see the doctor yourself. You can see your family doctor or you can go to a local Planned Parenthood. They can test you for herpes and any other STD if you want.

It might be something simple like a yeast infection (very common in women). If it is a yeast infection a doctor can give you some anti fungal medication (NOT antibiotics) and it'll clear right up. Antibiotics are often the CAUSE of yeast infections.

Good luck!

Hi Isabelle, Its annoying that you can't have the support from your mum during crisis time like this, especially when you need some support! First, try not to be scared. Easily said obviously but it just seems that with being a woman comes heaps of embarrasing/scrary/complicated things such as periods, period pain thrush, vaginosis etc etc! There are a few likely causes of your discomfort. Don't go slapping any old cream on there like vagisil (I cannot tell you how much it will hurt if there are open blisters on the skin so avoid it for now!) A doctor is the person you need to see right now. She can take a quick look, even a swab, and tell you if it's thrush, herpes, a bacteria infection like vaginosis or whatever. All of these can cause pain and or itching to different degrees depending. Thrush is a yeast imbalance in the vagina easily cleared with a cream or a tablet. Herpes is a virus, more common than people realise, can be spread during sex because people don't know they have it because there may be no symptoms. This needs diagnosis to help you control it with tablets and lifestyle because sufferers are infectuous. Sorry to be rambly but there are some good facts in previous posts like the details on herpes, but seriously, there is no point learning minute details about every single option until you know whats going on with you.
Make an appointment with a dr as soon as you can, do you have a galpal who can support you? And don't wash away with soaps etc thinking it will help, bathe with warm water only until you see the dr. Hope this helped!

Herpes simplex is a sexually-transmitted disease. Genital herpes, also commonly called "herpes," is a viral infection by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) that is transmitted through intimate contact with the mucous-covered linings of the mouth or the vagina or the genital skin. The virus enters the linings or skin through microscopic tears. Once inside, the virus travels to the nerve roots near the spinal cord and settles there permanently.

When an infected person has a herpes outbreak, the virus travels down the nerve fibers to the site of the original infection. When it reaches the skin, the typical redness and blisters occur. After the initial outbreak, subsequent outbreaks tend to be sporadic. They may occur weekly or even years apart.
Symptoms of genital herpes

Once exposed to the virus, there is an incubation period that generally lasts 3 to 7 days before a lesion develops. During this time, there are no symptoms and the virus cannot be transmitted to others. An outbreak usually begins as an itching or tingling sensation followed by redness of the skin. Finally, a blister forms. The blisters and subsequent ulcers that form when the blisters break, are usually very painful to touch and may last from 7 days to 2 weeks. The virus is contagious from the time of itching to the time of complete healing of the ulcer.

no of course not. It sounds like thrush.

It is very common. If it burns and itches and feels like it is cracked, it is probably this.

Go to the pharmacy and ask for some thrush treatment. If you are worried go to the doc. I use the creams that come with an applicator. Sounds messy but relief is only an hour or so away. You can also get tablets etc.

If thrush treatment doesn't work, then go to the doc.
Don't worry - its a common girly thing

Try to relax! There are lots of simple things that could be causing the itching - new panties, even panties washed with different kind of detergent or fabric softener, new kind of pads, maybe an infection. There are a few different kinds of creams you can get at the drug store (like Vagisil etc) - why not try one of those for a few days, and if it doesn't get better, then figure out how to get yourself to a doctor or a school nurse? I would say herpes is a longshot if you haven't been sexually active

I'm so glad you won't ask this question of a man. Especially a man with an MD.

Of course you can get it from sex. How young and uninformed are you?

I guess you hate your mom's guts because she warned you. Don't you hate it when someone is right?

Go see a doctor and stop complaining. Maybe it's something cureable. I hope so.

I'll bet its yeast infection. Its very common, especally if you wear tigh clothing (underwear).
I would go see your dr anyhow, but dont worry, its easy to cure and will go away on its own with a healthy diet.

You dont have to have sex to get a yeast infection.

Don't panic it sounds like thrush - yeast infection.
Eat yoghurt and go to the chemist and get a yeast treatment that can be used in the vaginal area.
These types of infections can be caused by taking antibioics, some other medication and wearing lycra or nylon knickers.
