Absolutely!
There is always going to be a chance of spreading the virus to your wife regardless if you wear a condom or not, or are having an outbreak or not. Condoms are not 100% effective in preventing the spread of herpes and the virus can be spread even if you are not on an outbreak. And, since a couple obviously needs to have unprotected sex in order to have a baby then the chances of you spreading the virus to your wife increase.
There are other ways to have children like artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization, but this can be very expensive and also takes away the thrill and fun of making a baby together.
If you do pass the virus to your wife then there is a chance she can spread it to the baby during birth. Herpes is NOT in a man's sperm. Herpes affects the skin and is transmitted by DIRECT skin to skin contact. This is why it's possible to spread the virus during birth if the mother is currently on an outbreak. As the baby is coming through the birth canal it can rub against the herpes sores causing the baby to contract the virus. If the baby does contract herpes during birth it is about 25% fatal. Being born with herpes is VERY rare though and can be avoided by having a C-section delivery. And, if your wife isn't having an outbreak or never contracted it from you, then it is perfectly fine for her to have a normal vaginal birth.
Also, just because a person has sex with someone who has genital herpes doesn't mean it's a guarantee they will get it. I have personally had genital herpes for 6+ years. I was with one ex for almost 4 years and he never contracted the virus from me. There are many couples out there with one person who has the virus and the other doesn't.
Good luck to you and your wife!

Actually, the Mom's that have herpes prior to becoming pregnant don't really have anything to worry about. Most are put on suppressive therapy during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy to avoid an outbreak during labor and delivery. It's the Mom's that don't know their herpes status OR contract herpes during the last trimester of the pregnancy that probably have more to worry about. At this point in time herpes testing is not part of the routine testing process for pregnant Moms. It should be but it's not. It's also a good idea to have the partner tested just in case he has herpes and she doesn't. That way they can avoid it during the last trimester all together. It's assumed that Moms with herpes should have a c-section and that's just not true at all. Moms with herpes can have normal healthy babies via vaginal delivery. Yes, there is always a chance of passing herpes to your wife through unprotected intercourse but then there is also a chance if you are having protected intercourse - condoms don't always cover the site of infection. You are only infectious for a percentage of the time, mainly when symptoms are present but for a small percentage of time when you have no symptoms.
Many couples however can be together for many years having unprotected intercourse without one passing herpes to the other and this may be a risk you feel is worth taking to have a baby.
If your wife were to become infected before pregnancy, she would not pass the infection to the baby as long as she was not having an active outbreak at the time of birth. If she does not catch herpes before getting pregnant, you might want to be very cautious during the pregnancy - particularly inportant in the first and last trimesters.
I wouldn't worry too much though - remember that one in four women have herpes, and many of them have babies. It is that common. My sister has herpes and has given birth to three healthy babies the natural way.

you can still have kids. dont listen to these idiots who say otherwise, clearly they know nothing about the diesease. If you wife were infected before pregnancy then the chances of the baby contracting herpes is less than 1%. The doc will give her anti-virals towards the end of the pregnancy to prevent an outbreak. If there is no sign of an outbreak during labor then she can have a vaginal birth. If she is having an outbreak then the doc will perform a c-section.
If your wife is not infected it will be crucial that she stay that way during pregnancy. The chances of the baby catching herpes is higher if your wife gets infected while pregnant.
Other than that u are good. Don't let ignorant people judge you.People dont realize how common herpes is and that it could happen to ANYONE. Not everyone who contracts herpes is promiscous. You can still contract herpes with condoms. People lie about their status and people cheat. So look at yourself before you place judegement on someone else.

I got clinically diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about six years ago, when I was still attending college and had a stupid one-night stand. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this video everything changed https://tr.im/HERPESTreatment2o159QO9
Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the hsv from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams. This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.
