Almost every wheel I have ridden either starts getting too hard to keep true, or the rim cracks around the spoke nipples. I am trying Ksyrium SLs at the moment. I ride 150-200 miles/ week on well paved roads.

I have had a pair of the Mavic Ksyrium SSC SL's- I'm a bit heavier than you and haven't had a problem with them.

also I would look into velomax- they have a high weight limit wheelset thats pretty sturdy.

Ksyrium SLs are probably the way to go. If you destroy them then you will probably be forced to go to a custom built wheel. If you were racing, Zipp makes a Clydesdale version of the 404 but I don't think it would be good for training. A step down in price would be the Ksyrium Elite which is very much like the SL but without the cutout between the spokes.

Go to "oddsandendos.com" and send mike an E-mail, give him all the info you can. (your spec's, bike make, etc.) tell him what you are after and he will set you up. The problem with most off the shelf rims is they are designed for 150~165 lb riders, once you get over 190 lbs your pretty much on your own. I was told by a local bike store "you just need a set of XXXX wheels, it's the last set you will ever buy". Two sets of bike store wheels later, and frustrated, I got a set from Mike, still have em, can't break em, low maint., free turning, light and priced right.

I was going to recomend some mtb stuff until I read you do road.

I don't know about road wheels, but from what I've heard in mtb hand built wheels are better than factory ones. I've tried that and find that asseveration in my experience.

Probably find someone good wheelbuilder that would select rim, hub and spokes based on your weight, riding style and budget can help.

Try the Neuvation M28 Aero. I weigh 270# and have used them for about 1000 miles with no truing or any problems....if you do have problems, they will replace the wheels or hubs n/c.
