My 5 1/2 year old Hoover vacuum cleaner has died and will cost more to fix than buying a new one. (There was an internal explosion of some sort so fixing it may not even be possible.) I'd like to get rid of the old one in the most responsible way possible. Does anyone know of any recycling programs or palces that need vacuum parts (in San Francisco) where I could take it? I've been looking at website but can't find much information.

I'm a Vac Tech. You can take your old vac to any independent dealer and he will take it off your hands for parts. You might be able to get something out of it. I sometimes give people free bags, or you can get a discount on a new vacuum. The Riccar Vacuum Company was running a promo where the dealer salvaged the vacuum if possible and donated it to a charity. They have a dealer locator on their website www.riccar.com

Join a freecycle or recycle Yahoo group in Yahoo Groups and advertise it there. It is a group where you give things away for free. There is a saying, "One man's junk, is another man's treasure." So maybe out there someone needs those parts from your vacuum to fix theirs. Also try a local vacuum shop to see if they would like it for parts. Then take it to them...make sure it is all cleaned up etc! Good luck!

I once saw a dead vacuum cleaner converted into a cute doll standing on a corner. A friend of mine took the head of an old doll, make the legs and arms out of socks, put a wig on it and put it on a corner. I looke like a little girl standing on a corner.

But it on Kijiji classified under free and someone in the recycling field in your area will be glade to get rid of it. Hell send it to me I ll be more then happy to get recycled.
