RE:
Any good place to go backpacking/camping/hiking in Wisconsin or Michigan?
I'm looking for a nice place to go hiking for a few days. Looking for a unique area that is fishing accessible and that would have a waterfall. I live in Illinois and I'm looking to take a trip out of state but somewhere close like Wisconsin or Michigan. Any ideas would be helpful.

Leelanau pennisula in the "pinky" area of Michigan. There is just a ton of beautiful country up there. I'm from west-central Michigan and spend a week on Lake Leelanau every year (I hear that there is good walleye fishing on Lake Leelanau. Pyramid Point is a gorgeous sand dune that towers over the Lake Michigan beach, there are many hiking trails nearby that aren't crazy busy. Also, lots of winerys in the region. There is so much to do, with both touristy and not-so-touristy interesting areas. I'm not sure about waterfalls... but there sure is a lot of water! Good Luck.

The Northern Highlands - American Legion State Forest in northern Wisconsin has backpack sites... No waterfalls though.
Check out the Wisconsin DNR page, it's pretty informative.
Wisconsin parks and forests rock!!

Northern WI is beautiful in the summertime when everything is green. Lake Superior is always cool to see but bring water shoes if you plan to swim in it, because the first 10 feet out or so is lined with huge rocks (smooth, but still difficult to walk on). There are many waterfalls and state parks up in that area also. My family stays in Minocqua every summer (which is a cute little town by the way) and we always make a trip up to Lake Superior and the UP to see the waterfalls. Have a good trip!
