Excellent idea... I wish someone would do this in my town.
I know I'm always disappointed when I go to a regular place to eat because their vegetarian selection doesn't contain any protein... or if it does it is cheese. I would love to go to a place that had good nutritious soups... black beans and rice... a good tofu burger with some sprouts on it.
You wouldn't have to have an extensive menu... just some basics. I'd be back everyday!

1. I'm a Vegetarian I don't eat meat or fish but I do have dairy like, milk and eggs. 2. Even as a child I never liked the smell or taste of meat. I also didn't like the fact that what I had before me on the table, was a dead animal. I spent most of my time hiding my food and when I was 10 my family, let me become a vegetarian. I didn't know anything about protein and became quite ill, so I had to resort to eating meat. I became a Vegetarian for a second time at the age of 14 and since then have never turned back. 3. It's not only the fact that most animals consumed for meat are treated poorly today it's also that, I really can't stand meat. Even now when I go past the butchers I hold my breath because it smells like flesh and blood.

Baked potato with tomato, bean and mushroom topping is lovely for a warm lunchtime snack.
People will always want sandwiches for lunch and as there are so few places which do vegan friendly sandwiches, I'm sure it would be much appreciated.
Veg/Vegan curries are also lovely and, for the summer, summer salads that consist of more than a bit of lettuce and tomato would go down a treat.
Lastly (as others have mentioned), goodies to satisfy a sweet tooth are a must!
Good luck with your business! :-)

You wouldn't happen to be opening this joint in Ohio or Michigan, would you? LOL.
Well, I'd put sandwiches, salads and wraps on the menu for sure. Soups would also be good.
Fresh fruit and veggies are a must as are veg-friendly desserts like cookies, brownies and things of that nature.
I hope that helps...did you want something more specific?

I don't know about anything else, but I would love it to go into a store like you're opening, and see foods that I wouldn't normally find. Substitutions, and suck! For example, I LOVE sweets, (brownies, cake, cookies) Maybe if you could make some that are vegan friendly!
I would go!
You also have to be very careful to make sure everything is as how you label it! Good luck!

A nice home made veggie chili always goes down well, or maybe some nice soups. You could even do a selection of filled cobs, how great that would be to have a choice of filling other than salad(try Mediterranean roast veg with optional cheese for starters).
I wish you luck in your new venture.

Vegetarian burgers, home-made pizzas, with red onions, red, green and yellow peppers, mushrooms, vege hotdog and you can get these from Asda's Wallmart and Sainsburys. Baked potatoes with cheese and a colourful salad and sweetcorn, hard-boiled egg salad. Fruit salads obviously, Pasta salad, Natural juices, Quorn chicken style pieces lighty fried with onions, peppers and vege stock and had a little tin tomatoes and put it in a wrap or Quorn mince with mixed or kidney beans the same way as with the quorn pieces you know chilli-con-corne and serve with rice or tortilla wrap again. Good luck with your shop! x x

Well, just check out the wholefoods shops that are most sucessful.
Try the one in Tring, or Oswestry...great shops.
Organic, co-operative, small-scale ethical manufactures are all welcome in veggie shops.
I personally would like to see more freezer stuff. living in the middle of no-where its a pain to drive to them to find the freezers empty. Just because I'm veggie, doesn't mean i want to cook everytghin frmo raw, occassionaly i need quick ethical freezer food
For lunch menu, i would keep away from everything you can get it a pub. Pasta, pizza and all that rubbish.
How about mozerella, sun-dried toms, wild exotic mushrooms in a filo parcel on a bed of salad...quite light, very tasty and quick to cook. And desserts please, mascapone, strawberry and chocolate cheesecake please. . it would be great to be able to eat sweets in a cafe/resturant.
Or, to go, how about hot sub-sandwiches filled with fried veggies and a bit chilli-hot...peppers, mushrooms, carrots, courgettes, diced potato etc lovely.

Theres a store in Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) called "Follow Your Heart" and it's a market and restaurant combined. They have some very unique items for us veggie lovers. Check out their website for ideas. It was my favorite place when I lived there. (Now I live in Las Vegas which is horrible for vegetarians/vegans)
