It would depend on how long it took before CPR was initiated. I know of one patient who was in asystolic for 20 minutes, but CPR was continuous throughout and he recovered without brain damage.

It depends on how long his brain was deprived of oxygen. It takes about 4-6 minutes of oxygen deprivation for irreversible brain damage to occur.
How long was he in cardiac arrest before he was discovered, and how long was it before someone started effective CPR?
If effective CPR was peformed immediately after the patient went into cardiac arrest, then there is a small chance that he may recover. It's a slim chance, unfortunately. The vast majority of patients who go into cardiac arrest and are resuscitated never walk out of the hospital.

6 minutes and the brain suffers irreversable damage, this time is extended by CPR and cold temp. If the drugs they gave got a rythm back for any length of time, this would extend the time also, but for the time it took the medics to get there after the event, is probably more than 6 minutes. I would say his chances of a full recovery if any is slim.

There is a very slim chance for full recovery, the longer he requires life support, the slimmer the chance gets. If the doctors do an EEG they will have a better idea of his current brain function, and therefore a better idea of the potential for recovery.

Life is mysterious. He may wake up and be fine. He may never wake up. All depends on how well his body is after not having any oxygen to his brain for 12 minutes. 15 minutes is the point where irreparable brain damage occurs.

Yes, with good CPR there is a good chance of recovery. Depends on how long it was before CPR was initiated. People are very surprising though and make recoveries in what seem impossible situations
