My girlfriend recently had a Pap test come back normal. In this test she also had the HPV test comeback negative. I recently went to the Doctor and was diganoised with Genitial Warts. I know while both test are not 100% sure, IM still worried. Is it likely I got these from her with both test results coming back negative?

If both of her tests came back normal, then it's unlikely you got it from her. But, tests are never 100% accurate and HPV WON'T show up if it is dormant inside her. So, she might have it, but it didn't show up because it's dormant.

You more then likely have had HPV for a while and just didn't know. Some people can have HPV for several months and even years before they find out they have the virus. HPV is VERY common though, so you shouldn't be too worried. It's estimated about 75 - 80% of the world will have it at some point in their life.

Be sure and tell your girlfriend you have HPV (if she doesn't know already). HPV can cause cervical cancer in women, so it's important that she knows. Also, there is a new vaccine out for HPV called Gardasil. You and your girlfriend should look into getting it for her. It can protect her from contracting 4 different kinds of HPV (two known to cause 70% of cervical cancer cases and two known to cause about 90% of genital wart cases).

Good luck!

Even though you have had a normal pap does not mean that down the line you will never see an abnormal pap. HPV is in alot of women and it never turns into anything. It is the HPV that is not treated that can turn into Cervical Cancer. Make sure to always get an annual pap and make sure they are checking for HPV. If you have a bad pap there are several things that can cause it, and things that can be done to get rid of the HPV. May not be permanent, but helps it from developing into worse stages.

I went through this with a friend of mine. HPV has to be active at the time of the test. So if she has HPV, and it is not active at the time of the pap, she can still have it. My friend has been married for four years, and until this year her pap had never shown positive. The dr explained that she could of had it for yrs and if her HPV was not active at the time of her pap then she would test neg. There are genitial warts that grow warts and then there are the kind that will just cause problems (that you cant see) you have to be tested for.

No you did not get them from her. If her pap and a separate test were both negative you did not get them from here. Since you have them you need to contact all of your former partners and let them know so they can go get checked.

You got it from someone else. But I hope you protect yourself and let your partners know that you have it now. Cause so many woman out in this words are getting this disease. It is a source of cancer. Please you would be amazed if you just told the woman, And had safe sex on how she would respect you. For not giving her something that could in the long run KILL HER.
