Does he smoke or drink alchol, these will increase snoring, there are the breathright nose strips and breatright OTC medicine to help snoring, it depends how bad it is like does he have sleep apnea this is a seroius condition that needs doctor intervention.

He should talk to his doctor. Lots of times snoring problems are actually sleep apnea - a potentially life threatening condition, but easily treated.

Losing weight is a very common cause. Mentholatum is also great... minty goo, goes under your nose. I use it even though I don't snore- it helps me breathe. Good stuff.

he can go the long route and get a sleep test done ==or==he can buy the stripper tapes for the nose at a drug store to help him

have your dad visit a doc and they will do sleep tests to determine if he is in need of a CPAP. (continuous positive airway pressure) it will blow air in his airway as he sleeps. he will feel much better
