Soda can rings or yokes. For an art project you could make up your own name for them...fish killer, Dolphin death, etc. Its comforting to know that young folks are thinking about the devastation plastic trash has on the ocean. I had a notion once that stores in or near beach communities should not sell such cans with soda rings. Of course, people could bring them in from other places, but it might cut down the amount of plastic ring trash. For more info on ocean conservation look at the wildcoast.com website.

Ok i wrote to coke a cola heres what they had to say about them...
Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company. We appreciate the
opportunity to respond.
You may be interested to know that the plastic carrier used with our
canned products is photodegradable and sensitive to sunlight. The sun's
ultra-violet rays cause the carrier to become brittle, so that it
breaks down into even smaller and smaller pieces under the effects of wind,
rain and other environmental forces.
The ring carrier loses approximately 75% of its strength within days of
direct exposure to sunlight. The speed at which it becomes brittle
will vary with the time of year, temperature, latitude and any other
factors which limit the amount of ultraviolet light exposure to the carrier.
The carrier will not degrade if behind a glass window or otherwise
shielded from UV exposure.
If you have any additional comments, please feel free to contact us
again.

I'm not sure what it's called but know we shouldn't chop up the plastic into pieces. I cut mine apart so it's not connected in rings but still one, large piece.
I read the animals can still choke on the plastic if it's in small bits.
All the best on your project!

Plastic rings. They take an animal's life away. If you leave them uncut, the animals will die. Bring scissors with you and cut up the plastic rings. Plus put them in to a trash can or bin. If you seriously need them, pack them uncut in your bag.

I don't mind going against the grain here, but I grew up on Miracle Whip and happen to really enjoy it. My husband, however, grew up on mayonnaise. Ew. Anyway, we have come to a compromise in our home and now we stock both kinds. It's the little things that make our marriage work! ; ) You and I can agree to disagree Deke, but I'll love Miracle Whip forever!

It is called a 6-pack yoke. Not sure what the plastic material is - possibly High-Density Polyethylene, or HDPE

I have to agree with Socmum and say that I prefer Miracle Whip to Mayonnaise any day. I grew up on it too. The thought of choking down Mayonnaise makes me sick!
