If you are a caterer and are doing a heavy hors d'ouevres party for 50 how many different hors d'ouevres would you serve and what quantity of each???

I'm not a caterer, but if I were to host a party of that size, I'd be certain to have at least two of each appetizer per person (so 100 of each kind), and at least five different appetizers (maybe seven depending on what appetizers I'd choose to make). So that would be about 500-700 appetizers.

For that amount of people, I'd go with 5 appetizers for a casual thing, and 7-8 for a more formal shindig. And it depends on if there's any meal at all served. But 3 per person for a small thing, and 2 per person for the formal thing should do it. And have a backup like a dip or something in case people are snarfing down the food.
