Yes I had one and was so scared of the thought of having my head bolted down in an iron vice (it was for my ears) that I got up and refused to have it!!!!!!
They made me wait another 8 months for a fresh appointment with a sedative - Bl**dy UK NHS - and they still don't know what's wrong with my ears!!!!!

I have had several MRI's and I have been really freaked out. All of the ones I had, I had to go in head first. It is really scary because I am so short, and it is like you are in a never ending pipe. I couldn't see out at all. Then they tell you not to move for an hour, while you are laying on a hard uncomfortable bed.
NOT fun at all!!!!

Yes, it's certainly not one of life's fun experiences. I've never had one, but from what I've heard, you have to lie pretty still, it is a claustrophic experience, and it makes a terrible noise. However, it is a useful means of detecting abnormalities in the body that would otherwise not be found. Next time, ask if you can be put in a newer model. There are some now that are transparent, so you don't get that closed-in sensation, work faster, and are less noisy. Good luck!

i had it a year ago , and my mother had it about 12 years or so ..
she warned that it would be a terrifying experience , reminds you with being dead and a lone , she wasn't claustrophobic , but she felt so when she had it done..
she had it for her knees , i guess she had to put her head inside the pipe and her legs partially outside ..
and to me , i had it for my back , so my head was outside the tube for most of the time .it wasn't a pleasant experience but it was not that bad , i guess because the machine was much improved and enhanced..
maybe this is the reason in your case , you had your MRI in an old fashioned one ??

I've been MRIed twice. The first time freaked me out because I felt like the machine was closing in on me. I had to close my eyes and eventually I fell asleep.
The second time wasn't nearly as bad because it was just for my head so my whole body wasn't in there.

I've had more than I would like to remember:) Did they ask if you wanted to listen to music? Sometimes that helps. Oh and just in case you need any more and they say they have to inject you don't eat before you have that because you will most likely throw up. I wish you luck! My trick is to not sleep the night before so that I fall asleep on and off while I'm in there:)

Yeah those aren't fun. And the noise gets annoying after a while too, even with ear plugs.
I had both of my knees done a few months ago, and it took over an hour. Not fun.

I've had several. Never bothered me. The hardest time I had was keeping still when they made me lay on my back when my left shoulder was fractured, dislocated and poking out my back.
