I went to my Dr and he did an EKG on me ( my mother recently passed from a heart attack) and he is now sending me to get a echo stress test. My ekg came back saying that my PR intervals were abnormal...is there any cause for alarm? I'm still geting over my mom's sudden death she was only 47. Help!

In my opinion you have been stressed by your mother's demise, please accept my heartfelt condolences. This stage is very painful and all sort of problems do arise in EKG. There is no harm in doing an Echo, keeping the EKG changes in view, I hope you will follow the doctor's advise as he appears to be competent person.
Take Care.

Condolences to you for your mother's passing. I am sure it is very difficult.

I think people have given you sound advice above. The one point that has not been noted is the stress part of the echocardiogram. As you probably know, you will be asked to walk on a treadmill that increases in intensity and speed until you reach maximum work load or target heart rate. At that point they will have you (literally jump off) move to a horizontal table to get the ultrasound images. The idea behind this study is that the heart will contract differently if it is getting inadequate blood supply at the aforementioned target heart rate. Your doctor is being ultra careful with you given your mother had a sudden event early in life.

The lengthened P-R interval found on the EKG will not require medication, regardless. It is simply a finding combined with your family history that has prompted further investigation.

Bottomline, I would not be overly concerned. The absolute worst case is that you may have a condition similiar to your mother's - except it is known 20 years earlier and can be effectively treated. The most likely case is you are fine.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

This is a normal procedure, it definitely runs in the family.
I have had 4 heart attacks, bypass, and pacemaker.
the stress test is not a big deal at all.
The abnormal EKG is not normal under any situation, sorry to say. This is something that probably can be fixed with medications if there is a problem. Don't stress over it.
You WILL be OK. It is best to find any problems early and keep rack of any changes. I wish I had known that!!
You are doing the right thing!!!!!!!

I am 23 and had an echo done last year as a precautionary, because my mom and grandpa both had heart issues. Don't stress. It's a relatively easy test. The doctor who performed mine gave me some answers as the test was taking place, so I didn't have to wait a week, which was nice. The hardest part is the breathing out when all you want to do is breathe in. It is better to know what is going on inside so that treatment can be started early if it is needed.

The echocardiogram will show if you have structural abnormality or if there is a portion of the heart that does not contract normally with exercise.

You may have a conduction abnormality (like WPW---Wolfe Parkinson White) with shaort PR interval. People with this are prone to PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia) This is usually not real serious so don't get too scared. If so, there are treatments that can cure this. So make sure you follow up with your doctor.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Be strong. It will get better with time. Take care.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. PR interval abnormalities are quite common and don't necessarily mean you are having serious problems. Your doctor is probably establishing a baseline in order to track you and your heart in the future. Different medications can affect the PR interval so let you doctor know what medications you take...even over the counter. Also, remember, you also have your father's genes. Your heart condition could not even be related to your mother's. Take care.

Condolences to you on your mom's passing. i'm efficient that's extremely complicated. i think of of people have given you sound suggestion above. the only factor that has no longer been stated is the rigidity component of the echocardiogram. As you in all threat understand, you would be asked to stroll on a treadmill that will strengthen in intensity and velocity till at last you attain optimal artwork load or objective coronary heart fee. At that factor they might have you ever (relatively bounce off) bypass to a horizontal table to get the ultrasound photos. the assumption in the returned of this study is that the middle will contract in any different case no keep in mind if that's getting inadequate blood furnish on the aforementioned objective coronary heart fee. Your favourite practitioner is being extremely careful with you given your mom had a stunning experience early in existence. The lengthened P-R era got here across on the EKG won't require medicine, regardless. that's in user-friendly words a looking mixed alongside with your loved ones background that has prompted greater study. Bottomline, i does no longer be overly in touch. actually the worst case is which you are going to have a issue similiar on your mom's - diverse than that's ordinary 2 an prolonged time earlier and could be effectively dealt with. the likely case is you're useful. i desire this permits. good fulfillment.

Because your mom was so young, he is taking more care than may be necessary.

Just because you are healthy, it doesn't mean you can't have serious problems. The benefit is, however, if you look closely and take the extra tests that your dr. suggests, likely you will catch anything before it is an issue.
