She keeps throwing up; I thought nothing of it until this morning, but she meowed like she was in pain before she threw up, and she's never been sick this much before. Also, I just noticed this morning that her ears have got less fur on them than they did before, and she came in this morning with a little sore on her side, as if she'd been attacked by something, although it wasn't serious. However, she hasn't been out since yesterday afternoon; it is possible that I just didn't notice it, but I'm not sure. She is getting old - she's 11 now - but it's happened all of a sudden and she's always been healthy before.

Any help will be gratefully received
Thanks, Soph.

Ringworm often starts on the ears. It starts with hairloss and can also lead to sores. It's a fairly treatable condition, a topical fungicidal cream applied to affected ares twice per day for 4-6 weeks should clear it up. Your vet will take samples to confirm the diagnosis.
It can be very contagious - you could get it too so get it checked out ASAP!

The throwing up could be any number of things, you'll need to go to the vet to check out the ringworm, so definate get this checked out. The big question here is whether she's losing weight. Vomiting could be something minow like hairballs, but if she's losing weight it's more of a concern. AMke sure she has plenty of water at all times, cats can easily get dehydrated from excessive vomiting

Good Luck

I agree take her to a vet like yesterday (ASAP)

Check her whole body as she may have other wounds. Our old cat kept getting attacked and he was always getting abcesses. The vet explained that there are thousands of germs under cats claws and especially feral cats. These cause wounds to become infected and turn into an abcess.

Feel her ears or other parts of her body where there is less fur to see if she feels hot as she may have a temperature!

I hope she's ok but the only person that can help is your vet...this could be very serious!!

Good Luck!

This is tough to answer; I went through the same thing with my cat last year. He was always in great health and about the most perfect pet you could imagine--he'd eat anything I put in front of him (unlike my other cats) and he loved people (unlike my other cats). It seemed to happen over night; pretty much the same symptoms as you described for your cat. I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with feline leukemia. The vet gave me some antibiotics for the cat but said he probably wouldn't survive long. The vet was right. At 17 he was too old to fight it. Did some research and found that feline leukemia is not uncommon and that a lot of cats are able to survive it. It seems to act sort of like a virus in humans, that is, younger healthy cats' immune systems can fight off the disease, and they don't always carry it for the rest of their lives. I'm certainly not diagnosing your cat with feline leukemia (I'm not a vet) but I am urging you to take her to the vet. Female cats are prone to bladder and kidney infections. Another possibility, since you mentioned the new sore, is a spider bite. And, of course, hairballs. In any event, take her to the vet; let a professional diagnose and treat her problem. Good luck, I hope things turn out well for you and your cat.

take her to the vet... NOW!! seriously your cat is obivously in pain and not well. The only thing that can help her now is if you take her to the vet. Even if nothings wrong it's still better to get her checked out.

My cat got hit my a car and we were so worried because she was sort of spasming in the middle of the road so we took her to the vets and thankfully nothing was wrong but it's so much better to be safe than sorry. Good luck and hope she's ok xx

Can I suggest that if you are really worried about your cat that you take her to see a vet asap? Afterall, she is relying on you, her owner, to care for her as she can't seek help herself . . .

It is possible that she has simply got a hairball which is causing her upset stomach. However, it is equally plausible that she has swallowed something that has aggravated her stomach, that she can't pass, or that has got lodged in her throat. Or she might have been poisoned, or eaten 'bad' food when out and about.

As for the hair loss on her ears and the sore on her side; well, could be ringworm (a fungal infection that you can catch, too - nothing to do with worms).

But, if this were my cat, with this combination of symptoms, I would not wait for answers here, I would take her to a professional as soon as possible!

Good luck . . . .

I know many people have told you the same, but really the vet is the only option you have. throwing up may indicate anything, from a poisoning to a serious and urgent bladder or kidney problem. Go to the vet now please!!

The vomitting may indicate problems with her kidneys. Are her teeth clean and white or are they grey/brown and crusty? If the latter then they need cleaning, and she may have a kidney problem. You really need to take her to a vet - such a grand old lady needs proper care.

Hope it is nothing too serious...x

Rather than asking us you should be taking her to your veterinary surgeon as soon as possible. 11 is not old for a cat and something is obviously going on. Bite the bullet and accept the cost.

Take her to a vet! It may just be worms but it could be something serious either way you have to take her to a vet.
