Hi !
Wow yes. I was told by so many that an over the counter cholesterol med was not possible. So after much checking it out I actually discovered one. It is called Policosanol It comes in 10mg and 5 mg tablets. My cholesterol was 7 and I managed to get it down to 2 in a mater of a few months.
The pack information suggests that you should have a blood test at 8 weeks and with a daily dose of 10mg you should notice a difference!
All the best.........Alison. P.S I do not work for the company.

, Have you cut down on Fried foods, butter , things that have a high cholesterol count. Try eating more roughage, fresh fruit , vegetables, use olive oil Ask you doctor for a diabetes diet sheet, I know it's cholesterol your dealing with but in the research I've done , the diet tends to pretty much cover it all. Pills OTC or other wise , should be a last resort, it circumnavigates the learning process of developing a healthy eating plan.

There are really no over the counter medication that is used to help to control cholesterol. If you want to take them be careful. These over the counter supplements that are on the shelf could cause you more trouble and may even be dangerous. Unfortunately they have not been approved by the FDA as safe and effective. They may have not be consistant with the ingredients. They carry a label but the ingredients may not be as labeled as the FDA also labels these things as supplements. It also sounds as if you really should be followed up by your doctor. It is good to get blood work done regularly as you say you are doing. The plan that I would suggest to you would to exercise and plan a good diet that is healthy for you illness. Are you taking aspirin and Niacin prescribed by your doctor. I know that some people believe strongly that herbs are the answer. You could suffur bad side effects if you donot really know what is safe or not. As far as the correct medication to take, discuss with your feelings with your doctor. I'm sure that it is difficult, but please be careful. As you have heard that sometimes if you exercise and eat health unfortunately doesnot lower, and then you should take the proper medication that youy doctor prescribes for you. If you do not feel comfortable with his plan for you, make sure you let him know. It's your body and your life. We have to take care of ourselves. even if it is with proper medication. Different people have issues to deal with. Yours is a serious illness that fortunately be controlled. I wish you good and happy health. Examine your options, then make your informed decision.
