Any heart rate between 49 & 60/bpm requires immediate medical intervention also known as bradycardia, see your cardiologist immediately.

RE:
55-60 heart beats per minute. Is this normal?
I am a 23 year old male who is somewhat athletic. I work out two or three times a week (I don't run). Moreover, I clean buildings around 15 hours a week which keeps me moving. Is my heart rate anything I should go to the doctor about?

As a healthcare provider I can tell you that your heart rate is normal for an athletic person.....meaning the rate is actually lower than the usual (bradycardia). The reason is that the heart that has been exercised and developed has been able to develop the ability to pump more blood per stroke. This means the heart is more efficient and can pump at a lower rate and still circulate more blood. There are also reasons for a bradycardic rate that is not for healthy reasons. But with the information you have given I'd say you rate is very healthy and keep up the active lifestyle

Your age group has a slower heart rate. Normal for you would be 60-72 beats per minute. I wouldn't worry. Good Luck!

This rate is perfectly normal for an active person like you. The heart is the most important muscle in your body--you've kept it fit, therefore it doesn't need to work excessively hard to pump blood thru your body (faster beats means it's working harder to bring oxygenated blood to your cells). Relax and be proud of your good health!

I would worry more about a fast heart rate than a slow one. It just means you're in good shape. If you feel lightheaded often, have headaches, chest pain, or are out of breath from minimal activity, see a doctor. Otherwise, appreciate your good health and stay athletic.

Since you call yourself athletic, that does sound a little high. But, everyones heart rate is different, you might have low blood pressure (nothing to worry about unelss you frequently get dizzy or pass out when going from sitting to standing position) and your heart is just beating fast to compensate. You might want to mention it to your doctor on your next check-up but I don't think it's anything to worry about immediately unless you have other symptoms.
