It's a little get together for a girl at work that is going to florida next week to get married. Her grandmother works with us to and she is having the picnic. It is at the park right down the street from our house so we are walking. Grandma said she is bringing all the food, and not to worry about gifts because they will have a real shower for her when she gets back. But I really don't want to show up empty handed! What is a good fall back that chances are grandma won't be bringing?

Make the bride to be a gift basket packed in a picnic basket. You can fill it with a couple of napkins, small plates, a couple of wineglasses, a bottle of wine, corkscrew, gift certificate to the local deli, etc......Pick a $$ amount to spend & use your imagination. It will be a great gift & also a reminder of the nice picnic grandma gave for her.......Congrats to the bride!!

It doesn't haveto bein the form of food or drink at all. . . take a few folding lawn chairs or a couple of pretty picnic blankets to spread out on the lawn. Grandma will no doubt be glad she doesn't have to do too much bending to get up or down and others will appreciate the extra appropriate seating area.

Do you know anyone close to the grandmother or the girl in question? Perhaps they can suggest something. Or, in my experience Americans do picnics exceedingly well, and is just a good hostess, so perhaps you could acccept gracefully and go "empty handed" and enjoy the occassion and go to the shower once you have met others who will be going.
Do not take drugs, but perhaps a bottle of wine or something to give to the hostess, who may or may not choose to open it there and then! That is her perogative, but just in case she does, make sure that the white wine is properly chilled, and that the red wine is room temperature. Red wine should be allowed to breathe, but last time I went to USA there were laws about driving with open cans/bottles of alcoholic beverages.
Whatever you choose to do, enjoy!!

Fried chicken is always good on picnic's. You could always bring extra napkins or paper plates or something like that. You always for get the small things when you have a picnic.

Bring a dessert, like brownies or cookies. That way, if grandma does provide dessert, everyone can enjoy them later back at the office.

I don't know what your budget is, but a Royal Doulton vase is always a great gift. If money is tight, then a nice set of wine glasses (you can get them budget from most homewares stores) will never go astray!

dip some ends of pretzel logs in white and/or dark chocolate. Put in a cheap, pretty container or wrap individually in plastic wrap and tie with wrapping ribbon. give to grandma. she can set out for others to eat or take them home or pass them on to the guest of honor etc.

u can take a small farewell gift..not too expensive..or u an just take some chocolates,cookies or some lil snack
