Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.

Some diabetes symptoms include:

Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Extreme hunger
Unusual weight loss
Increased fatigue
Irritability
Blurry vision

If you have one or more of these diabetes symptoms, see your doctor right away. You can also take our Online Diabetes Risk Test to find out if you are at risk for diabetes.

Simply Google Diabetes and diabetes symtoms, and you'll get all the professioal information you need...... much more complete than yahoo questions. Though below and above is all true, you should read all there is to read about it at those extensive links. I'm a diabetic, and there's too much to cover HERE. I never had any symptoms so one really never knows, therefore don't depend on symptoms or the lack of any, they can fool you.. Periodical blood glucose testing is mandatory at least once a year, or every 6 months, or every time you visit a doctor. That's the only SURE answer. HBA1c test AND also the regular finger prick..... but they can do it in the arms now, if you're squimish about fingers, which are felt more.... but the main HBA1c test is done with blood collected for other tests and that's the main one to see how your sugar level has been over the past 3 months. If you're suspicious you can also get a home meter and test your own sugar regularly, you don't feel a thing if doing it in the arm, with today's new meters. Good luck

Urinating too much, very thirsty, increased appetite, weight loss, urinating at night, malaise and itchy skin..
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease of insulin deficiency or resistance and is characterized by disturbances in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism. Insulin transports glucose into cells for use as enery and storage as glycogen. Insulin deficiency compromises the bodys tissues' access to essential nutrients.
The disorder comes as type 1 insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, and more common type 11, non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. There are other off shoute forms that exist i.e pregnancy related (gestational diabetes).
Diabetes is thought to affect about 5% of USA, of whom about half are undiagnosed. Incidence appears to affect mnore males than females and rises with age.
If you are concerned your GP will order a fasting blood sugar level, a fasting plasma glucose level and a 2 hour glucose tolerance test +- glucose challenge test. An ophthalmologic exam. Urine test and blood test for glycosylate haemoglobin (HA).
I hope this helps.
