Yeast infections are caused by a number of things.
Vaginal yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of yeast organisms that normally live in small numbers in the vagina. Factors that encourage an excess growth of vaginal yeast include:
* Using antibiotics.
* Having high estrogen levels (hyperestrogenemia), such as during pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy (HRT or ERT) use, high-dose birth control pill use, and the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle.
* Having diabetes, especially if your blood sugars are not well controlled and tend to be high.
* Having an impaired immune system.
* Using corticosteroids, such as prednisone.
* Being overweight.
* Having the genital area exposed to moisture for a long period of time (for example, wearing a wet bathing suit all day) or living in a warm, humid climate.
* Using an intrauterine device (IUD).
* Having a sex partner with symptoms of yeast infection (very rare).

Oh gosh, I can tell you are a guy.. women get these a lot.. it si not a STD, it is a build-up of yeast.. women get them when pregnant, or on anti-biotics, or if inn a wet bathing suit too long, etc.. if she is totall shaved donw there and moisture has no place to go (hair), she is at a much higher risk as well.. its not a biggie..
Men get them I think through intercourse - but some anti's would clear that up... and she may not know she had it, sometimes it just is a little scratchy and moist, minor one that goes away on its own - or if she is young and silly - she may think she has an STD and be afriad to tell her doctor about her symptoms, but once she does, they'd give her a cram and waa laa all gone.. (they also sell 1-3 day creams over the counter or vinegar and water mixed helps too)..
Not sure if men can get it another way.. as yeast tend to not build as much as in women..

No. Intercourse can spread it between men and women or vise versa, but yeast infections aren't STDs in women. They develop on their own. Some of the common ways to get one is by wearing wet clothes or taking certain antibiotics. Your vagina normally has yeast living in it. An infection is when they mulitiply rather quickly and you have more down there than you should.
Your pharmacist is a wack-job!!! Go find a new one!!!

some women are more susceptible to them than others. But I don't think it is considered and STD. Below are some ways that I know of:
Antibiotics
panties that are not cotton
wiping the wrong way (always wipe front to back)
not wiping and allowing moisture to stay there
too tight of pants
pregnancy
low immune system
sometimes after menstrual cycle
not changing out of a wet bathing suit
Make sure that when you have sweaty pants that you change out of them as soon as possible, such as after excersing or possibly working in the heat.
Try eating yogurt, it does aid in the prevention of them. If I am taking an antibiotic I make sure to eat yogurt every day and a few days after the meds are gone.

A yeast infection is not a STD...FYI... you can get a yeast infection from bacteria on toilet's and from when you go #2 and you wipe...bacteria from your poo can be transfered that way when you wipe...also detergent's and soaps can cause irritation that can lead to a yeast infection...wearing a sanitary pad for too long...
