Metronidazole (Flagyl) won't help a yeast infection. Fluconazole (Diflucan) is usually prescribed for a yeast infection.

Metronidazole is used to treat BV (bacterial vaginosis) and the STD trichomoniasis. The symptoms you are describing are signs of BV. Are you sure he said you have a yeast infection or did the doctor tell you that you have BV?

If you have BV, the medication may take a few days for the symptoms to go away. It'll take about 10 days for the infection to go away.

If you are still having symptoms and discharge after 10 days then you need to go back and see your doctor. Good luck!

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:

Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.

If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

METRONIDAZOLE is used to treat bacterial vaginosis. Please be advised to avoid all alcohol when taking this drug, or using the gel in your vagina.
Inside your vagina there is a delicate balance of helpful bacteria and yeast. Sometimes something happens that causes one species of those helpful critters grow out of wack. A yeast infection happens when the normal yeast in your vagina grows to be too much. BV is when the bacteria grow to be too much, and it is a very common infection. Once you get rid of the infection it can take a few days for the balance to return to normal. You can use rephresh, available at a drug store, to help restore the balance.

Hmmmm, I think you have a yeast infection but not candida. I had one of these when I was preggers with my first. I was treated with oral anti biotics. It's called Trichomoniasis. It's considered an STD. DON'T FREAK OUT. Go read up on it. It's very common. But it is transmitted through sexual contact.
If you are still itching and the Metronidazole is finished up, you need to probably treat for candida(Monistat) AND follow up with your doc. Need relief now? Plain Yogurt. Trust me, it works when you're desperate!
Good luck,
D

Metronidazole is used mainly for bacterial vaginal infections. A side effect of using this drug can be a yeast infection in which case you would need to get either diflucan or v-fend. They are both anti-fungals and normally need to be taken once.

It's a prodrug. Don't know what the hell that means, but itching could indicate that it is healing... What else did the doctor told about?

Because if it is itching, you could use Betadine Feminine Wash, it's mild, but will be a little rash on your condition.. it's effective, but don't use anything unless it's prescribed by your doctor.

Anyway, about metronidazole, check out wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metronidazole
