...in other words is it always associated with weight, or can a person who is skinny but still eats a bad diet get type II?

Also, what if the person is skinny not because of metabolism, but because they don't eat very much? Is insulin level affected by this?

Amy has it down fairly well. Yes, occasionally thin people become diabetic. Key word: diet. Type two is caused by having a genetic predisposition then aggravating that with poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and being overweight. Any combination of those three triggers with the predisposition can net you a case of diabetes. I was not particularly overweight nor particularly sedentary. I was eating a poor diet (compared to nowadays) which is probably what put me over the top.

Science has uncovered some interesting facts concerning diet and type two diabetes. I have posted quite a few interesting things about it on my diabetes info page. You might want to check it out: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html

Yes, a thin person can get adult-onset diabetes (Type II). The reason is because this type of diabetes is due to the pancreas producing some insulin, but the amount is not adequate, or the insulin is not effective in lowering blood glucose because cells are resistant; with insulin resistance, the pancreas produces more insulin than usual, but the cells are unable to use it because there are fewer receptors. While those who are overweight are more susceptible to adult-onset diabetes, unfortunately, those who have high metabolism rates, but poor diets, are still at risk.

^ Anyone can get adult-onset diabetes, if you eat poorly and don't exercise and especially if it runs in your family it's possible.

Type 2 means, your body makes insulin but you can't utilize it properly.

Stress, to much or to little sleep and sometimes other medications can make you prone to diabetes. I hope this helps and I hope you never have to deal with it.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/diabetestreatment
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

So..
This program http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=549 helped me to improve my quality of life as a diabetic. The system asserts that it's able to reverse diabetes in as short as 3 weeks. I still think that diabetes is a chronic disease and can't be reversed but I really liked the book. It helped me watching everything related to my diabetes under a different perspective. That's why I recommend it.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Being overweight is merely a symptom of one of the causes of type two diabetes. The main cause being a process called 'metabolic syndrome'. Eating sugar doesn't necessarily cause diabetes... it's more complicated than that. The main cause of metabolic syndrome which leads to type two diabetes is excess consumption of refined carbohydrates (sugar is just one of them) along with insufficient intake of essential nutrients. This results in "insulin resistance" which, over time, leads to high blood sugar. There are some other causes, such as exposure to "agent orange" in the Viet Nam war, some other toxins, such as BPE that also interfere with the endocrine system, but excess refined carbs and insufficient fresh fruits and veggies is the main culprit.
