well honestly i don't like camping one bit, but the fact that you get a chance to relax... think about it, RELAX, seriously... no schedule to have to maintain... wake up and head out, stop at a really awesome sight, take a few photos... you're not really doing anything except what you feel like doing then. and also it gives you a really good chance to connect with nature. it's awesome being out to be able to do that, i hardly get the chance nowadays... and in all honesty, if you're in a place that's really heavily covered with trees, breathing that air is making you healthier in so many more ways than you expect

You don't say why you hate it ... I'm planning a trip right now. Tent camping, the best kind when I really want to get away and leave it all behind. Usually we camp in mountain areas so there's no phone access. No TV, music if we want it. Time to decompress and relax and step back. I look forward to nightfall and retiring to the tent for cards or snuggling or just crashing after a long hike and dinner. I have a tent where you can see the stars, and when I wake up I love to look until I'm sleepy again.
We use air mattresses and have nice sleeping bags, and that's makes all the difference in the world. In the morning I sit and watch the birds and the sun coming over the hills while I wait for the coffee, my husband usually still sleeping nearby.
We usually meet people in camp or on the trail. It's cheap, it's always memorable, and I come back home refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes.

Somebody is liable to drive a tent stake through my heart, but I tend to agree with you, somewhat. I don't much care for what most call camping. Don't give up on camping, until you actually try it. Find a spot to be ALONE. No other campers, or anybody. That means wilderness- which IS what camping is supposed to be. I camp in Northern Ontario. Spend a week watching eagles flying around, listening to loons, and getting away from the fire at night, so you can see the Northern Lights better. Just the smell of the coffee brewing on a cedar fire in the morning, is worth the trip. Fake camping sucks. Real camping is unique.

The whole point in camping is to get in tune with nature. Find a quiet, secluded spot and just sit and listen to the birds, trees, bugs everything. Experiance the beauty of the woods. Everything tastes better when it's cooked over an open fire. It is definately quieter then the city. So just enjoy the peace. It makes you apreciate the earth more. I promise. Find fun things to do in the camp. Take a hike, go fishing, or you and some friends can take a late night ghost hike. Just make something up and try it.

I love camping. If you need convincing that camping is fun, then maybe you just shouldnt go. Just an idea. Not to be rude or anything. Sorry if that did sound rude. I wasnt trying to be. Its just fun to some people and not to others. You cant just convince someone that camping is fun. If you dont think its fun then its not to you.
This website is great. It dosnt explain why camping is fun to some people, but I helps keep everything from going to heck while your there. We always have problems happen while we are on a camping trip. This site can help you prepare so thing like that dont happen. http://faculty.deanza.edu/donahuemary/stories/storyReader$782

I love camping. I like being in a tent and seeing the moon and stars above me. I am going camping next week and I can't wait! It's going to be so much fun! I'm going to be up where there are pine trees so I will also be able to smell those which is nice.

camping is GREAT. #1 nothing to worry about. no cellphone, no tv, just kick back in your camp chair and relax. #2 no one to impress. you don't have to get all fancy and made up because you're out in the woods. be comfy and enjoy the time away. #3 one word: S'mores! and all the other yummy camp food. Pie Iron Pizzas ROCK! #4 if you go with your boyfriend, it gets chilly at night a lot, so you have an excuse to snuggle up. #5 if you're over 21, nothing in better than sitting by a camp fire drinking a few beers or even a margerita (they make hand cranked blenders now...frozen yummy drinks can go everywhere and anywhere now).
you didn't mention if you are "roughing it" camping or enjoying all the modern luxuries of camping. last weekend, my bf was just marvelling at the fact that my camp kitchen set-up is more gourmet than the kitchen in our apartment. it was great.

I think it goes back to one's childhood and the sense of freedom and self-reliance that comes with one's first backyard campout, and the amazing sense of adventure that is one's first real campground campout.
If you never experienced camping as a child, perhaps you found your idea of independence elsewhere and perhaps you'll never be a satisfied camper? But the more you learn about biology, forestry, astronomy, or take up related hobbies like fishing, orienteering, geocaching, and photography, the more you'll appreciate the outdoors and the more you'll be willing to endure to pursue your new goals.
If you're just being dragged along on these trips then perhaps you just need to get more involved. For many people the planning stage is the most fun part of camping, deciding where to go, reading about new and interesting places, making lists, shopping for nice outdoor clothing and the perfect piece of gear, planning meals, and more. Once it's "your trip" you'll be a lot more enthusiastic about making it fun.

I like to camp. I set up 2 tents. 1 for sleeping and 1 for a screen room. In the evening I enjoy sitting in the screen room with a lantern hung from a nearby tree, so I can watch for wildlife, listen to the night sounds and watch for shooting stars. No stress, no phones, just a peaceful commune with nature. There is nothing better in the morning than the smell of coffee brewing and enjoying it while you watch the sun come up, and the woods come alive. In the evenings it is fun to sit around a campfire with family and freinds singing songs, or telling ghost stories while roasting marshmallowsfor each other. ..**good to note When using a tent for sleeping, it is a super good idea to waterproof it with one of the waterproofing sprays in case of rain.. It keeps you dry, and you can still enjoy the sound of the rain outside..However, if there is a lightning storm, get out of the tent and get into your vehicle til it passes for safety.

Camping is fun because it forces you to 'rough it.' It makes you realize all the comforts that we have in our every day life.
Because I'm old(er) now, I do have trouble getting excited about sleeping on the ground... But I haven't graduated to a pop-up trailer yet (I said older, not OLD). Bring a fat sleeping pad and it makes for a much nicer sleep.
I think it's the campfire time that makes camping fun. And beer. I like beer and campfire.
