Like dogboys_ said it helps hyperactive children as it has similar effects to some medications. I started using coffee with my son over 25 years ago after he was seen by the 4th neurologist as an alternative to Ritalin. It has not hurt him and is an almost guaranteed way to settle him down when he is unsettled. (BTW he is Autistic.)

As to it stunting his growth, get real. He is 6 foot tall and weighs in at about 185 so I would hate to think what he would have been if it was true (which it isn't)

Should Kids Drink Coffee

2016-11-01 21:20:20 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

no, kids are hyperactive enough as it is. Why do kids need coffee. I mean many adults dont need coffee just we like the taste and the caffiene is addictive. But no kids should not drink coffee. I think 15 should be the earliest. What reason could they possibly have for wanting to anyway... probably just to feel 'grown up'

The only reasons I wouldn't give my children coffee is because of a) the caffeine, and b) the acquired taste.

The caffeine however, can also be found in sodas that children drink daily. So, it shouldn't be an excuse not to give coffee...however, I believe we drink too much soda these days.

The acquired taste, at least for me, depends on the drinker. I hated coffee when I started drinking it. But then I tried different ways to have it: with or without cream, with or without sugar. Children might not have the patience to try that, and immediately might decide for themselves that they don't like the beverage. I don't see it as a problem, per se, but that might prevent a child from drinking it.

It obviously depends mostly on the parent of the child, and whether they want to be hypocritical in allowing him/her to have a caffeinated beverage (coffee) when they already allow lots of soda.

No way! They shouldn't be drinking coffee or tea. First time I tasted coffee I was 14.

When I was much younger, I used to drink "coffee milk" -- milk with just enough coffee to color it. I progressed as I got older. It didn't hurt me at all.

I have 3 kids and they like to be like mom and dad sometimes and have a coffee. I just get them decaf with splenda! Same taste. Besides that is how I have mine because I have a sensitivity to caffeine.

Caffeinated - absolutely NOT. Their bodies can't handle the excessive caffeine. They have natural nutrients in their bodies that give them the ability to be active and energetic. Giving them caffeine coffee decreases that over time and they get addicted to caffeine which is awful. But if your kids still want to be like mom and dad and have their coffee, give them decaf.
