Some dogs do this i have found it often is because the pup was to young to leave teh mother and adopted you as mother.
he can be trained to stop that's what the importance of then staying with the mother. Mom does teh training.
If he wasn't to young just a bad habit that you let him get into.
again you can train him to staop

Allowing this behavior is allowing you dog to be the alpha over you in the house. When things like this go on as puppies you put a stop to it immediately. To not do so is allowing the dog to dominate you.

He's grooming you. As long as it doesn't bother you, it's ok. Some dogs just do this, some don't. Some like to lick ears and groom their owners that way.

I had an Anatolian Shephard who loved to give me hairdos. =)
