I want to do a self-supported bicycle ride this summer riding only on the back roads (roads less traveled). Where can I find maps (or software) that include details on all roads especially those in South Carolina?

Try this link 2854 rides in South Carolina all varying lengths. These routes are posted by cyclists and usually avoid the worst cycling areas. I use this site a lot. It links with google earth so you can get satellite pics and co-ordinates.

I tend to use ordenance survey maps. These are good for finding out which routes you can use - Bridalways/biways etc. Also, if you find that a route has become overgrown, you can tell the council, who would clear it for you.

There must be an equivelant ordenance survey publisher in the US. Try your local post office or librabrary.

Check with AAA. And try putting "bike paths" and "locations" into Google.

I'd use http://maps.google.com/ to find the roads
