and go on like they are nice and think the hair is their own!

I hate it, I am black myself and wear my hair chemical free.. no weave, no chemicals, all natural, when I take it out it is a big beautiful afro!

I think they hat this and when I walk on the street with it, they ask my if the afro is mine.

What do you think of this?

I understand what you are saying. It makes me so sad to see girls so attached to them and when they take them out, they find that at least an inch of their hairline has disappeared cos they kept putting in weave after weave after weave!!! I think the problem is the fact that the weave is SO obviously not theirs as that texture of hair is not indicative of black people.

I've had that same problem with girls asking if my afro is mine!!!! I am at a loss as to why anyone would wear an afro wig. Just leave it as nature intended and then you'll get one all of your own (which isn't likely to fly off in a strong gust of wind!) NB. For all the weave-wearers out there natural hair is not harder to deal with than processed hair so please stop hiding behind such a lame excuse!!!!

As for people saying that white women wear weaves all the time - well yes they do but they weave straight hair into straight hair and do not cover extremely curly afro hair with a straight weave!!!!!!! Believe me there ain't nothing worse than a straight weaved head with naps hanging out of the back. IT AIN'T COOL!!!

Serena Williams has finally taken her weave out and her hairline is a picky mess which she has taken to discreetly disguising with a hair band!!!!! I felt sick seeing how destroyed her hair looked in the French Open!!!!!!

While I have natural hair, I don't push others to do the same. My hair is way past my shoulders, but I choose to wear twists or an afro. It really doesn't matter to me. Now of your question - people need to realized that not only black girls wear weaves, all races do (I know, my niece does hair). I think they know that it isn't their hair, but at the same time, that "look" is what they prefer. Being natural, I braid my hair, wear weaves or whatever else I want to at that time.

By the way, I get the "is that your hair" look all of the time when I wear my hair out. One lady actually whispered "now she knows she needs to take that nappy piece out of her hair," assuming it was a weave or something. Anyway, ignorance about what your hair would actually do if you didn't perm or put a weave on it. It seems like they forgot what their hair looked like when they were growing up.

Weaves and extensions just seem to be a part of the hair/fashion industry. I guess, on the one hand, if you like to change your look, they could be fun, but I imagine they do a lot of ultimate damage to your natural hair. They don't look any worse on Afro American women than false hairpieces do on any other ethnic group; in fact, they may look better. I think we all would do better to accept what we've been given....in both hair texture and color. I commend you for celebrating your own natural beauty. I'd like to have a small portion of the money women spend to change their hair texture, both black and white women. It's a personal prerogative. Straight hair is just "in" for a minute; let's see what happens next. Just rock that Afro and flash a big smile!!

Its because some people buy into stereotypes of black women. These images are fed to the world throughout the media. Black women are shown on tv with weaves, nappy hair, and ghetto appearances. If not that then they are portrayed as mixed girls with weaves who are stuck up professionals. Even society wants ethnic women to have long straight hair so they appear to be some type of clean cut person. Its all ignorance. Pay it no mind and keep doing you. Im a Black girl who also rocks her natural hair. And no the long hair genes do not miss Blacks. My hair grows pass my shoulders but I prefer to keep it cut.

I think natural hair and chemically relaxed hair can both look either bad or good, but I'm not black, and I haven't had to live with that kind of hair. A former room mate of mine was black, and she had a lot of trouble with her hair breaking, so she wore extensions. She would have liked it better if she could have grown her own hair long. Maybe you should just count your blessings that you have thicker, stronger hair than what a lot of black girls are blessed with. Also, there are a lot of negative messages in the media about natural hair, saying it's nappy or whatever, and a lot of black girls feel pressure to use chemical perms. It sucks, really.

Because they use hair extensions so frequently, they probably assume that you do the same, and that's why they ask. You're probably not the only one who enjoys having completely unaltered hair, but you also have to respect that others feel differently and want to be able to style their hair as they please. Since nature didn't allow them to have the hair they desire, they change it chemically. Anyway, it's all just a difference in preference and opinion. If they give you crap for what you believe, then they're being rude. Blow them off and be the better person.

Each to their own really babe.....My partner is black and so I have had this conversation loads with his sisters and femail relatives, all apart from one are totally natural and I appluad you and them being natural and not damaging your hair in anyway wth weaves, ext, etc....however, to flip that around, what about other colour people, white people get a colour, highlights, low lights, straightening, perms, etc.....people just aint happy with what they have got.....Im natural, only wear mascara, nothing else and I prefer it...but its down to the individual....if we were all the same, there would be no individuality left......

Never really thought or lost sleep about it.
There are a lot of white girls that have extensions to make their hair longer for whatever reason, or get perms - isn't it the same principle?
Each to his own, I guess.
