This just irritates me. CHRISTIANS are people who believe in CHRIST. Catholics are a TYPE of CHRISTIAN. If you're comparing Catholics with Baptists/Methodists/etc, you're looking for the word "PROTESTANT."

Is that so hard to accept?

And Catholics RESPECT Mary. They don't WORSHIP her.

The fact that people are ignorant about Catholicism but still make blanket/wrong statements about them... that's just stupid. Go educate yourselves.

And I'm not Catholic. I'm just an agnostic who wants to set the record straight.

Most non-Catholic Christian denominations accept Catholics as Christians. A very few do not.

A dictionary would say that a Christian is someone professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.

Catholics would fit this definition.

In the Nicene creed, from 325 A.D., Catholics profess:

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father.

Through Him all things were made.

For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.

On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are baptized as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

We truly are spiritually "born again," we just don't usually use those words.

With love in Christ.

Get over it! Unless you have been there you won't ever really know the truth. No, the catholics are not Christians. If they were true born again Bible believing Christians with no extras, I would have never left the religion.

EDIT: Since you claim to be an agnostic now, it seems that you too don't believe in the catholic religion either or you would not have left it.

EXTRA EDIT: Susan J, if catholics were true Christians they would not be praying to the dead (necromancy) and they also would read their Bibles and understand that there is nothing in the New Testament that say to pray to the idols, but it does say not to. In fact it warns several times about the idolaters, etc, yet still catholics do not understand this. Yes, the religion is an old one, but demons are older than the earth, and of course we should not follow them, but if you are praying to the dead (Mary, and the rest) who do you think answers? It is not the dead because they cannot hear you. If fact if a person dies they are either dead in Christ, or dead in their sins in hell waiting to be cast into the lake of fire. All this is in your Bible.
The demons of satan do hear you and they know every ones lifestyle which is why mediums think they are talking to the dead and you associate with one. Another deception. I am not here to judge you, just trying to tell you the truth from the word of God right out of the Bible. You can only serve one god and that is the true God in heaven or the father of lies on earth (satan). If you are praying to idols, you are not worshiping God, also if you are not obeying John3:3 or John 14:6, you are not doing what is required as a Christian. Also take a second look at the Ten Commandments out of the Holy Bible (KJV) 1611 and read aobut idol worship and haveing only one God. Take it as you want.

Some Christians do not take into account Roman Catholics to be truly Christians, and those are often protestants. But essentially, Roman Catholics are Christian however now not all Christians are Catholic. Roman Catholics are lead by way of the Pope in Rome. Protestants do not admire the Pope's authority and are prepared into 1000s of exclusive denominations. The Eastern Orthodox(Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox) additionally don't admire the Pope, even though their teachings and ceremonies are similar to the Roman Catholics. The Eucharist is meant to be Jesus's Body and Blood, this is a Holy Sacrament, an overly primary facet of Catholic church rite. I do not think in it. I can variety of have an understanding of the proposal however I am now not Catholic or Christian. Never be petrified of asking questions of your priest or fellow parishioners.

It truly is bizzare how ignorant people are. I too am not Christian and am constantly amazed at the lack of understanding people seem to have. Even one of the answer's for your question revealed their ignorance. "Many Catholics are Christians. This does not mean that Catholicism is Christianity. Similarly, not all protestants are Christians". Many Catholics are Christians? Uh, I think you will find all Catholics are Christians. And similarly in fact all Protestants are Christians. These seem to be fundemental truths people just don't grasp. Well done and keep up the work of setting the record straight.

The unbiblical beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church have often given the enemies of Christ opportunity to blaspheme. The Roman Catholic Church is not the church that Jesus Christ established. It is not a church that is based on the teachings of the Apostles (as described in the Book of Acts and the New Testament epistles). While Jesus’ words in Mark 7:9 were directed towards the Pharisees, they accurately describe the Roman Catholic Church, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!”

Greetings Punter,

There is no truth in anything you said about the history of Christ's Church. In fact what was posted was palgiarized from the following Pagan website:

http://one-faith-of-god.org/final_testament/end_of_darkness/evil/evil_0100.htm

The fact is that there has been an industry since the Protestant Reformation to produce fanciful and revisionist history of the Catholic Church out of Catholic hatred. Jesus predicted such hatred for His Church and those who are faithful to His teaching and this board and the commentary directed towards Catholics are an example of such hatred.

The Bible speaks to the fact that those who attack the Church this way are committing grave Sin. One of the ten commandments forbids bearing false witness but people still persist in spreading lies and innuendo about His Church. In a very real sense it shows a hatred for Christ as well as His Church and reveals the source of such hatred. Those who spread these lies are just the tools of Satan doing the work of evil. May we all pray that God have mercy on them.

In Christ
Fr. Joseph

Many Catholics are Christians. This does not mean that Catholicism is Christianity. Similarly, not all protestants are Christians. To follow Christ is a personal decision. Ap. John says: "To all who received Him, He gave the power to become children of God" John 1

The Roman Catholic Church contends that its origin is the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ in approximately 30 A.D. The Catholic Church proclaims itself to be the Church that Jesus Christ died for, the Church that was established and built by the Apostles. Is that the true origin of the Catholic Church? On the contrary. Even a cursory reading of the New Testament will reveal that the Catholic Church does not have its origin in the teachings of Jesus, or His apostles. In the New Testament, there is no mention of the papacy, worship / adoration of Mary (or the immaculate conception of Mary, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the assumption of Mary, or Mary as co-redemptrix and mediatrix), petitioning saints in Heaven for their prayers, apostolic succession, the ordinances of the church functioning as sacraments, infant baptism, confession of sin to a priest, purgatory, indulgences, or the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture.

How can Catholics be Christian when their beliefs go against God's Word?
