I've seen that forks are used for fractured bones and dental somethings... can you tell me more?

I have found two uses for them, at least way back when I was in medical school. They do assist in assessing hearing. Also, by striking the tuning fork firmly and applying the handle to a bony prominence, one can test the ability to feel vibration, which is a test of the posterior columns of the spinal cord.

They are used in ENT practice to distinguish between different types of hearing loss (conductive or neural) and in Neurology to look for evidence of loss of vibration sensation (seen in diabetes for instance).
