As a kitten he used Tidy Cat litter. When he was 6 months old he was de-clawed and was switched to Mews News pellets. He turned a year old this month (June). About two weeks ago he started putting his bowel movements on the floor behind the toilet, or on the rug in the half-bath where his litter box is. Why is he doing this, and what can I do to get him to use his litter box again?

Well it could be 2 things off the top of my head. Is the kitty box cleaned daily?? It could be that he is picky and doesn't think he can go if there is anything in there. Worst case senario is that he has worms. I would take him to the vet for a check up. It could just be that you need to switch litters

I have the oposate problem except not on my bed. My cat uses the litter for urine but poops on the floor! Anyway first of all close your door! set boundaries for where the cat can go and put the litter in a room like the laundry so that it gets used to the area. If you see the cat peeing where it shouldent be, grab it and flick it on the nose, tell it NO in a loud voice, this way it knows its done wrong. By peeing around your house it could be marking its terriroty (particularly if its a boy) if its scent is already there then it shouldent pee there (try some fur) Whenever u see the cat peeing where it shouldent be tell it off and lock it in a room for atleast 30 min (the one with the litter), if it pees in its litter then give it a nice treat! Good luck!

They realize that the toilet is used for your "litter box" and being highly intelligent are doing as the master does. On the other hand he may not go in the litter more than once unless "it" gets REMOVED from the box!!!
He may also be ill, a friend's cat took to doing this and he was ill, he also didnt like his new, cheaper, litter !!!
Schedule a Voice Conference with your VET !!!!! He may want to see Kitty too!
BEST OF LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Bambi did that a few times til I caught on to the fact that I had not cleaned it for 2 days straight-so I got in gear in that regard and all was well again.

You might just call and ask your veterinarian in the event you keep the box clean-something else is causing the problem in that event.

"MOONBEAM" said it best. Only other question is has there been any changes that effect him; New animal, child, routine ? If not then its Vet time.
