I have like 115 credits. I need five more classes to graduate with a B.A. in German but it's gonna take me a year from now to be done. I want to join the Air Force and get started now but I can't decide if I should stick it out for one more year before I join or just join and finish while in the A.F. I'm wondering about credits transferring in the A.F. and if it'll be lots harder and longer to finish in the A.F. or what? Please tell me anything you can about getting Bachelor degrees while in the Air Force and if you think I should finish up before I join or just join and take care of it in the USAF.

Well, since your major is German.

it would not be very hard to finish your degree.

Degrees in German is offered at most universities.

Getting an engineering degree would be hard to do.

You would not be transferring your credits to the AF.

You would be transferring your credits to whatever University was by the Air Force Base you were stationed at.

Like almost all Universities, they would require you to complete at least a years worth of credits at their University before they would issue you a degree.

But if your only 5 credits shy of completing your degree.

It makes no sense to not go one more semester and graduate.

If because you changed your major, etc you need longer than a sesmester to graduate.

It would depend on how long, for the best advise.

You could join AFROTC at your university or transfer to a university that offers AFROTC.

You would have to complete ROTC summer camp before starting ROTC as an upper classmen.

But ROTC might offer a scholorship and they will pay a stripend of $300 a month whether you get a scholorship or not.

You would have to stay in school two more years to complete the ROTC class requirements.

But you could use that time, to finish your BS Degree in German.

And get a Masters in German, or to get a 2nd degree in another language.

Linguist are always in high demand, especially Linguist with more than one foreign language.

It can be done, but with only 5 classes left.... FINISH your degree!!!! You will not regret having gotten it done first, then going in to the military. It make take you a year to get it done, but it will be at least 2 years to finish it up once you are in. You'll have basic, then tech school, then adapting to life in the AF... until you finally figure out when you have time to take a class, if they have what you want or if you can find it on-line and that your university will accept!
FINISH IT NOW!!!!

You may be able to do officer if you join with a BA degree, so I would suggest to get it first and then enlist.

Air Force is also cutting people back, so it may be hard to get in right away, you may have to enlist now with the assumption that when you ship off next year you will have you degree finish.

Hope you kept a high GPA.

keep at it and join if that is what is in your heart. my cousin recently retired after 30 years in the AF. He has a Masters and is well on his way to teaching as a second career. i had a German professor who pointed out that education is forever, no matter what else you do. my aforementioned cousin earned all of his undergrad credits in the service for free-or close to it. of course in the end-it's really whats in your heart-it's all up to you. i wish you luck and much success whatever your decision.

Finishing college can be achieved through perseverance. Thus, you can still study even when you are already in the Air Force. Study while you are not on duty.
