Why do Christians still say the mark of the beast is 666??

Question

Don't they know that in 2005 it was discovered the original bit of papyri actually says the number is 616.
Whether publishers of the Bible have the necessary integrity to correct this major typo in future publications of the Bible is highly doubtful,yet the fact remains that the original number was 616!

The consistency of denial and ignorance is almost inspiring. Nah, it's laughable. It is clear that most of the 666 "believers" haven't a clue about its origin, nor of the origins of most of their fairy tales.

I doubt it even matters as there are some theories that Armageddon happened with the fall of rome, the death of the essenes.. there is a million theories.

So changing a number from 666 to 616 isnt going to make much difference.

Also what about the fact that the numbers of 666 have letter values as well and spell out Neron. aka Nero?

616 = 2^3 x 7 x 11
666 = 2 x 3^2 x 37

616 looks more superstitious, because it has 2, 3 (as an exponent), 7, and 11 in its factorization. What was with 37, anyway?

Let's do the math! Six hundred=600 plus threescore (a "score" is = 20, so threescore would be 20 x 3=60) plus six! 600+60+6=666! In Biblical numerology, the number 6 stands for MAN (like the Scripture says) or incompletion. Three "sixes" in one person imitates the three offices of the triune God (Father, Son, Holy Ghost) with a man-made, Satanically charged counterfeit (Satan, Antichrist, False Prophet) who will exercise control over the world during the Tribulation on three fronts: counterfeit miracles (Satan), religious amalgamations with Christianity (False Prophet) and one-world governance (Antichrist).

It was on some NPR radio show about stories without resolution, or paradoxes or something. Either "This American Life" or "RadioLab" I don't remember which, but I remember sitting in my car at home listening to the end of that story.

Besides, I just bought the Omen series on DVD and I'd hate to have to wait for a reissue where they use CGI to change all the numbers around.

What do you mean "still"?

A "1" in the "666" would be inconsistant with the number six, which is the mark of incompleteness, which is the mark of Satan. Biblically, your theory would not hold water. Sorry.
