if you believe in faith, what's the purpose of evidence? or how could you disprove or tell apart which "other" gods are the "real" one if those gods are also based on faith? So, what exactly is the purpose of proof/evidence?
P.S. i know some of Christians would say - just read the Bible and stuff, but the truth is, like the bible, there are other faith-based religious scriptures like the Qu'ran, Tanakh, etc. I don't see any purpose of these non-evidential sources.

Its all simple - Please read this it will be short and quick.
Heres my OPINION
God is mathematical proof to me. Descarte and Plato both do it for me. All the religions are a joke. People just ask all the wrong questions and have wrong intentions, and thats if they actually try to look. Once you realize there is god all the other stuff like heaven hell and what not appears to be a joke. At least it did for me. And i think god is such a sick term now it should almost be changed to .. Truth. There are to many corrilations to the word god now.

The funny thing about faith and evidence is that no matter which way the pendulum swings, there is equal amounts of both on either side. It requires just as much faith to believe that there is not a God, as it does to believe that there is.
Believers find just as much evidence in their world that there is a God, as nonbelievers do not. What I am trying to say, and this must be a very difficult concept to grasp, (because I am not having any luck convincing either side of this), but for every bit of evidence that there is, there is an equal amount of uncertainty. That makes both side completely even.

First you have to ask the age old philosophical question, "What is truth?"
Is truth merely what is real and right to me? Or is it more?
Is proof a matter of personal perception of reality?
You can't ever have a faith vs. Evidence because to a believer faith is evidence.
Its simply about what you feel deep down inside is real and right to you. What is real and right to me may not be real and right to you. Its Moot to even have arguments about who is wrong or right spiritually.
Also if someone has faith evidence is worthless unless it’s something so overwhelming its life changing. Because only something that powerful could cause someone to change their perception of their reality.

Dear Tabula Rasa,
While it is true that faith requires some element of the unknown, i think most people wrongly presume that those who do have faith- do so blindly without any intelligence, thought, or proof.
Faith is not completely blind! There are things that you and i have faith in that we do not completely understand (ie: gravity, or even our automobiles). But we make judgements on those things based on our interactions.
The Bible is historically, aracheologically, and experientially true. In addition there are numerous prophecies that have proven to be true.
When i started reading the Bible God was teaching me things and opening my eyes and hearts to the Scripture. Over time i did more and more studying on the accuracy of the Bible, where it came from, etc. and it showed itself to be true!
Kindly,
Nickster

Thousand years ago, proper hygeine has been already instructed to the Israelites.
Bible already declared that the earth is round and hangs on nothing. That there are mountains in the sea. That everything in the universe will disintergrate ( entropy) 2nd law of thermodynamics.
This are just example of declaration that cannot be just a product of low tech and unscientific nomads in the desert.
God said in the Bible that if my prophecies will come true, therefore I am the true God.
So far many prophecies has been fullfilled and still coming.
"unless those days will be shortened no flesh will be alive"
Isn't it Nuclear, chemical, biological weapons He was referring to?

TRUTH and FACT are very different things. Facts are tangible--thus provable by the observation of evidence (i.e. my shirt is blue).
Truths, on the otherhand, are intangible. They are simply ideas that help us make our way through our lives.
It is the job of science to deal with facts. Religion and philosophy deal with truths. With that said, the two are not mutually exclusive, but one must keep the two separated in one's mind.
Evidence is also a funny thing. To the believer, no evidence is nessicary. To the skeptic, no evidence is good enough.

I think the purpose of proof is to disprove faith and religion all together, not too prove one religion over another, simply put to describe how impossible a higher power is.

I don't believe in faith but I have faith. It is something we have on things we can't see. They say evolution has evidences, but the evidences ain't complete. They are still looking for the missing links. And Darwin himself "denounced" his theory. He saw the void of the theory but his followers didn't want to. There are things that you just gotta believe. You can't like tell God to come here and show Himself to you.
