I am still trying to find out what the teams pay the drivers. We never get contract details like you hear from the MLB, NBA etc. What does Tony get paid? How about Jeff?

Most drivers contracts stipulate that they receive 50 to 55 percent of the winnings.
Unlike other sports NASCAR is set up so the drivers are independent contractors and the terms of contracts are not released. However with the larger names such as Gordon,Earnhardt ect there are speculative contract information released, mostly conserning the sponsorship indorsements.

Jr is the highest paid with 22 million a year, and Jeff Gordon is in second with 20.5 million a year. I think tony is like somewhere around 17-18 million a year.

also with their $20-$25 million salary most get paid for signing autographs at sponsor events. jr., gets $50,000 grand an hour for his autograph. i know this book is mainly for girls but read the girl's guide to nascar by liz allison. it may have all the answers for your questions. i know a lot of the drivers, so when i asked about their salaries it varies. but the top guys get $20-$25 million a year.

Each driver negotiats different contracts depending on ability and popularity... You have a % of the winnings, salary, sponsor supplements, appearences, it just all depends on who u are and what u want.
