Take your dog to a veterinarian NOW. Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine and it is TOXIC to dogs. Your dog may be fine, but then again it may not be and if it goes into toxic shock, you may not have time to get her to a vet before she cannot be saved.
I don't want to scare you but in this case I strongly recommend you err on the side of caution.

The thing that actually poisens your dog is the amount of cocoa. Which means dark chocolate is worse for dogs. Anyway there is not not enough cocoa in pop tarts to kill the dog. Though he might have stomach upset. The best thing you can do is give your dog some salt which will make him puke and then he should probably be better. After a few days if he still is sick, has trouble breathing and won't eat take him to the vets. (By the way my mum is a vet so she told me all this) wish you luck! Hope your dog gets better!

Not enough chocolate in them to cause harm no matter how small the dog. Chocolate is toxic to dogs but it needs to be highly concentrated like baking chocolate. Think alcohol. It's toxic to humans but we can tolerate quite a bit of it and usually is not deadly unless a lot is drunk with a very high proof. ODing on chocolate pop tarts would be the equivelent of a human dying from the alcohol in vanilla flavoring.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs but the amount of chocolate in a pop tart is pretty small. Hopefully she didn't eat the whole box. I would call your local emergency vet & tell them what & how much she ate. Chances are you can wait to get her in to be seen tomorrow morning. Don't be surprised if she gets a belly ache & vomits or has runny stool. But, do make that call to be sure what they recommend.

The main thing is how big is your dog? If a great Dane ate it, he would probably be ok.If a yorkie ate it, I would be more concerned. How long ago was it? If it was less than about 30 minutes, you can make the dog vomit it up, by giving him peroxide to drink. You will have to pretty much force him to drink it,by using a syringe. Gicve him as muich as it takes to make him vomit. No set amount. This works VERY quickly and it is foolproof. He WILL vomit within a few minutes. But if its been much longer than that, he would have already started to digest it. And he might be ok even if you did nothing, but to be on the safe side, I'd make him vomit.

I just had this exact same problem, my 9 lb dog ate 1 chocolate pop tart. It is the middle of the night so I called the emergency vet and they told me this.
A dog the size of mine would need to eat at least 220 grams of milk chocolate to reach lethal levels, but only 28 grams of dark chocolate to reach lethal levels. A pop tart is 50 grams, and I am unsure what type of chocolate they use, but the whole pop tart is not pure chocolate. I would argue that of the total ingredients, less than half is chocolate, so less than 28 grams.
They told me to induce vomiting with one teaspoon of three percent hydrogen peroxide to be on the safe side, and to watch for tremors or super hyperactivity. If those things happen I will have to bring her in. I hope this helps anyone in the future who looks this up.
Here are some good instructions about using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting in dogs, including dosage: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2011/03/15/how-and-when-to-induce-vomiting-in-pets.aspx

Honestly... a few pop tarts isnt the end of the world. My bassett is forever stealing chocolate and trying to get his jaws around anything with it on the top. He is fine, sometimes he gets belly ache after. I agree with the lady and the alcohol theory.... a lot of choc would be a problem. A few poptarts.... Dont stress yourself... or the dog by inducing vomiting (!) out. Leave lots of water for him, and if he appears unwell later bring him to the vet.

Some dogs are sensitive to chocolate, but others aren't. My dogs eat it in small quantities all the time, and it's never hurt them. If she ate a lot of it, it could be a problem. If she's not used to eating people food, she will probably get an upset stomach. Just watch her, and if she starts acting sick, get her to a vet.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aUOCd
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

i was told by the vet that a dog could eat a reeses and a snickers and still be ok because they use milk chocolate and small amounts so its not a big deal, its the dark chocolate that can hurt them really bad. Call the vet and make sure!
