One policy will be the primary payer, pay their portion of the bill first, the other policy will pick up the difference, in most cases this leaves you will a very small payment if any.
Consider the cost of the extra insurance, it may be cheaper to have a supplemental policy. In may cases you don't have the option to cancel the policy if your cost is rather low, the company wants to spread the risk in order to the best group rates.

if the premium is not too high i suggest that you keep 2 ins

reasons
1. You may leave to other job in the future and getting a new policy then may not be possible if your health condition doesn't qualify.
2. Read all the small prints of your company insurance as i know most insurance offered to companies are under group insurance which may differ from your existing plan

benefits of having 2 plan
1. depends on your overall claim limit, if you company ins is not sufficient to cover the bill u may use you own ins

2. check on your ins medical panel or panel hospitals. In the event of sickness or an accident it is good to have more options for hospitalisation than limited choice. Your prefered doctor may be in hospital covered by your old medical plan.

Make sure the both insurance companies will send the claims to each other as they are incurred. This is called Coordination of Benefits. If it's the same insurance company, many times they won't coordinate with themselves. It works best only if you have two plans that have out of network provider benefits such as a PPO plan. You also need to add up the cost of what you are paying and what your husband is paying out of your paycheck per pay period. Is this worth the added cost each month? Usually it only is if you have significant medical needs.

I thought the same thing. Then, my wife developed cancer. Instead of having to lay out several thousand dollars, all I had to pay was the co pays on a bunch of prescriptions.
