From Times Square you can take the MTA NYC Subway: the #2 (red) directly from Times Square to 149th Street Grand Councourse in The Bronx. You can then take any MTA bus such as the BX1 or BX2 that runs up the Grand Concourse to go further up. The concourse runs from about 136th St to about 203rd Street/Mosholu Parkway in The Bronx. Some areas can be a little dangerous, especially from from 150th St to 183rd St but it's not that bad before dark and its safer than other sections of the Bronx in comparision. You can also take a yellow taxi or the Metro North Railroad from Grand Central Terminal.

which part of the grand concourse do you want to go? It stretches from138th st all the way to Mosholu parkway.
To get to the Concourse from times sq you do the following:
1. take the shuttle train to grand central.
2. take the 4 train up town to 161st and yankee stadium
3. go downstairs to take the b or d train. The b and d train lines is on the grand concourse. The 4 line is on Jerome avenue which is 3 blocks from the grand concourse.
Safety depends on the area you're going to. From Kingsbridge Road and up is pretty safe, and below Kingsbridge Road is somewhat safe. You have to be careful with the cars though. The drivers don't really care about the traffic laws.

Take the D train which runs along the concourse, maybe take a stroll along fordham rd for some shopping, or take the bus across fordham and go to arthur ave. Great italian food on arthur ave then walk over to the bx zoo or the botanicla gardens. Depends on the time of day on how dangerous the area is and how you comport yourself. there is some great art deco architecure, the apts are large and gorgeous, unfortunately I now call it the once grand concourse.

exactly, where on the grandconcourse are you trying to get to? it begins at 141st street and runs all the way up to 190 something street. if ur traveling by way of public transportation take the '2' train to 149th street and the grandconcourse and exit the subway.
i was born and raised in the neighborhood so i feel safe whenever in the area, although i've relocated. i do not consider the grandconcourse dangerous; however, i would recommend you be observant of your surroundings. i'd recommend this for wherever you travel. take care.
