They are itchy, watery, and swollen. When I look in the mirror, I look like a creature of the night. I tried everything from cold water/compresses, an ointment, eyedrops, and more. What can I do?

Assuming that you do not wear contacs, make little use of eye 'makeup' and are careful when applying it ocular (eye) allergies are most often caused by nasal allergies. If this is the case - treating the nasal allergies should relieve the ocular allergies. The preferred treatment of nasal allergies is a prescription nasal corticosteroid. You should never use a nasal decongestant. If the nasal corticosteroid does not resolve your ocular symptoms you may require an ocular anti-histamine. Again - you should never use an ocular decongestant. The use of ocular and nasal decongestants makes things worse not better. Your problem is a common one for which there are many well tolerated and very effective prescription medications. A single trip to your physician should resolve this problem in a day or two. See your physician and enjoy your summer.
