Either the bride or the groom have to be Catholic for them to be married in the Catholic Church.

With love in Christ.

No, someone has to be a member of the church (bride or groom). Not just a member, but an actively practicing member of a Catholic Church. Marriage is a sacrament, like first holy communion, confirmation, and baptism. You can't just come in off the street and expect to be married by the Cathholic Church.

The more important question is are you both Catholic, because if you are then becoming a member of that church would not be out of the question. There might be a few membership classes or marriage classes but it would be worth a try.

Contact the parish office for the requirements. At least one member of the bridal party must be Catholic. If you are not a registered member of that parish the priest may make an exception, depending on church availability. Some of my friends married in a different parish for convience of location for family and friends. GOOD LUCK!

There are churches that let you marry in their church even if you are not a member. You just really need to ask the pastor of the church. Some Pastors are not so strict and would love to marry you. That is what happened to me. I have been looking at many different churches and they wouldn't marry us unless we were members of the church. And we just kept looking and have found a beautiful cathedral that would love to marry us. And I am glad that we kept looking because we wouln't have found this place if we didn't. So please if you really want to get married in a church you ask the Pastor of the church. It won't hurt to ask and you may have your wedding in a beautiful catholic church.

No. You shouldn't be just picking a church because it's 'pretty'!
