I'm going on a Carribean cruise and was wondering what plunder I should return with (i.e. cheap liquor, jewerly, coffee, cigars, etc...) Basically what can I get in the Carribean alot cheaper than I could in the US. Of course I want to do it all legal. I'm porting from San Juan with stops in Barbados and Antiqua to name a few.

You really need to be an astute shopper to get a good deal. For example, a few years ago I saw a watch here in the US that I liked and priced it several places. When we got to St Thomas I went shopping and when I found it $25 cheaper I knew I had a deal. So if you have some things that you are interested in, price them at home and then when you get to the Caribbean you will know whether th price is really a "deal".

Each day on cruises there are shopping talks for the islands you will visit. The cruise lines will tell you where to go to buy jewelry, like diamonds, tanzanite, pearls, and where to go to get good deals on other things. But you still need to recognize when the price is really lower and a deal.

What I/we usually do is buy a bottle of liquor if its made on that island. Like in Barbados they make Malibu Rum; so buy a bottle or two to bring back.

The best place for shopping in the Caribbean is St Thomas. If you are going there you will probably see some good deals. The other islands have some shops but a lot of "straw market" type places.

Don't get the Cuban Cigars, you can buy them cheap, but you can't bring them into the U.S., They will allow you to smoke them onboard up till the last nite of the cruise. If you get caught trying to sneak them thru, it's a $1,000 per cigar fine.

The booze is cheaper onboard in the duty-free shops, and you are allowed 8 bottles per person tax-free. But they must still be sealed, no open bottles can be brought thru.
Silver is cheap, as is leather goods.
