Yet they will pick through the question looking for grammatical errors or misspelled words to criticize the person for. Isn't that a little silly? Benevolent BB

If you wish to make a valid argument, you first need to establish some credibility. Yes, I agree, it is a little silly, but some of the questions fall so far outside of the sphere of logic that to argue the question itself is pointless. That is a quick and easy (and lazy) way of saying "go back to school and learn to think before you try to engage others in a conversation based on rational thought."

Some people don't take this (Yahoo Answers) seriously and are just here to have a little fun. They love to answer the totally ridiculous questions that make no sense whatsoever or the questions you need to be a cryptologist in order to understand what is being asked. I suppose it all has to do with the mood you're in when you see the question. Sometimes, I'm very serious and honest with my answers and there are times when I just want to have a little fun.

Lighten up, Benevolent BB. Don't take this seriously. If we can't have fun here, there's nowhere else to go.

It would seem generally because that person has an opposing view than the questioner, so therefore is not likely to have the intelligence to give an answer, to something they're not likely to believe in so will ridicule the person instead. On the other hand though, some questions are set to get those answers in the first place, the fact you posted this question in Religion and Spirituality, could open you up to all kinds of zealots with nothing better to do than harangue you over it.

Some people just wish to be contentious.

Criticism of spelling isn't nice, and above where you have written your question it says spell check, although some times a person has a lot on there mind when they ask a question and it's hard enough to get the question down, and sent without having to worry about one more thing.

Maybe it makes them feel more important or educated. I always notice misspellings and grammatical errors because I was an English major, but I don't comment on them.

It's the chance you take asking and answering questions in an open forum. You always get rude insensitive people. But then you also get those who try to answer honestly and nicely.

Looking for them is silly. But if the whole thing is a nightmare of spelling and grammar errors and the person is calling others stupid....

if the question is dumb enough not to warrant an "honest" answer, it's alway amusing to make fun of it....

and when the spelling or grammar is especially atrocious, it opens up many avenues for comedic relief...
