the guy i have a crush on, well he asked me: "what do you miss about having a boyfriend" so i told him the answer, then he said "ok i thought that would be too personal for you to answer" how in the world is that a personal question?

He might have been worried that you would think that he was asking you to go into a lot of detail, like maybe recalling specific things that happened from a past relationship. He was just trying to start conversation and be polite.

It has to do with your feelings and innermost thoughts. It wasn't a do you like McDonalds or did you see Shrek 3. It showed him who you were on a more personal level.
