Never be embarrassed to talk to her about anything. Yes, i know it is but you should still do it anyway.

Be honest with her with what you know and do not know. Yes, you are aloud to say to her honey I don't know, maybe we could find out together.

I do like to the other posters answer about female friends or aunts or grandmother.

Haaa, Haaa, Haaa.
Sorry I have to giggle, but, my dad raised me.
Think of it this way, it's better she be open with you, and ask you the questions instead of her "Friends"
True, your gonna feel kinda weird talking to her about those women things, but, hey shes gotta know.
You could get a book for her to read and let her know if she still has any questions, she can still come to ask you, but, you feel that the book could answer it better than you could.(in better detail).
Like my dad always told me.
Honey, you can come talk to me about ANYTHING, sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. and if I can't tell you the answer I'll go get a book and find the answer and let you read it.
Or just tell her, it's natures way of preparing her body for a baby, and when the body knows their is no baby thats when she'll have a period, every month.
It's also natures way of cleansing the females body out.
It won't be fun, and it can be very painfull.
But at the same time, it don't have to be embarrasing.
She won't have to hide inside. and yes, she can go swimming provided she has the right protection.
But I would have her wait for swimming untill after the 1st or 2nd day.
Good luck... :)

Take her to a nurse or doctor for a regualar check-up and tell the doctor ahead of time that your daugther has questions. The doctor will bring the subject up in a discrete way and open up the floor to questions. Good Luck! Its nice to see a single Dad doing so well! Keep up the good work.

I have a son in his late 20's. When he was about 11 I gave him a great book. Then I told him if he had any more questions I would do my best to answer them. Also I always tried to talk very naturally about sex and not act embarrassed so my children would feel comfortable talking to me.

There is a book called "the Period Book" it explains everything and will ease your stress. Im a single mom of 3 boys, how the heck do I explain to them about pecker issues?? Its all a matter of thinking on your feet, and having opposite sex friends you trust as well. Dont leave it to the schools, they dont explain anything.

This is easy. My Dad didn't tell me anything. The had a little lunch suitcase, with everything a girl might need in it. She said to me"I DON'T WANT TO TAKE ABOUT THIS, BUT ONE DAY WHEN YOU ARE OLDER, YOU MIGHT NEED THIS" he left the room, and i read all the directions in the box, and was shocked, but i understood.

Later one day when i got out of bed, i felt weird. i realized i needed the box, and used some. When my dad noticed this, he said i have to go buy it, and he gave me money every month.

answer her..because if you're not going to answer her than she'll seek outsiders..you're her dad and you should deal with her curosity and its always better to kill child's curosity then and there otherwise that particular thin keeps howering in their mind..
