Krishna is the origin of Vishnu this is for our technical understanding that Krishna has 64 qualities but Vishnu has only 60 qualities the 4 exclusive qualities or gunas are reserved for Krishna to display & they are:
1. Venu Madhurya: Krishnas flute is very melodious
2. Prema Madhurya : Krishnas pastimes as a baby child are very attractive to devotees also His loving exchanges with gopas & gopis

Vishnu. That's because he is a part of Trideva: BramhaVishnuMahesh. Brahma is the Creator, Vishnu is the Presever and Mahesh(or Shiva) is the Destroyer. Vishnu had many incarnations or avataars and he took these forms at various points in our mythological history where there was serious trouble for the world. Rama, Krishna, Matsya, Narsimha are four of the many forms he took to guard the world or protect the world from evil. Lord Krishna was his avataar during or before the Mahabharata...

Lord Vishnu , because he takes care of the whole universe all the time , while Lord Krishna was one form of Lord Vishnu for some time on the earth. praying to Lord Krishna is also the prey to Lord Vishnu .
there is no difference in prey if you treat Lord Krishna as Lord Vishnu.

Both forms have their own meaning. Both came into existence to do specific role in the universe.
From Lord Vishnu came Lord Krishna. I mean incarnation when needed at right time.
Lord Krishna is a part of LordVishnu who took birth on earth to fulfill his duties at that period.

Vaishnavites of south India, and Maharashtrians do not consider Krishna as an avatar. He is Vishnu Himself.
For example, one of saint Jayadeva's ashtapadis is on Dashavatar. Krishna is not one of the ten in it.. Instead He is praised as Vishnu Himself.

Sri Krishna Is the supreme personality of Godhead.Vishnu is the expansion of lord Sri Krishna. This is accepted by all the achryas & vaishnavas also all the scriptures.Krishna Himself has declared about this in the great Bhagavad Gita
vedaiç ca sarvair aham eva vedyaù. (BG3.10)
The Lord says that the purpose of the Vedas is to understand Him.
Also Krishna says:"He who meditates on Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his mind constantly engaged in remembering Me, undeviated from the path, he, O Arjuna, is sure to reach Me." (Bg. 8.8)
Arjuna also accepted Him as Supreme personality of godhead.
Arjuna said: You are the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the ultimate abode, the purest, the Absolute Truth. You are the eternal, transcendental, original person, the unborn, the greatest. All the great sages such as Närada, Asita, Devala and Vyäsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.(BG10.12/13)
Logic & important point:Vishnu never showed Krishna Avatar but Lord Sri Krishna showed Vishnu avatar somany times.
In one sence there is no difference between them, only when they are compared deeply we will find their difference.

Neither are superior. Krishna is the incarnate of Vishnu, so they are actually the same person.

This is all I could find, but it was fun looking.
The followers of Krishna, for instance, expected His return under the name of "Vishnu Yasha", which in Sanskrit means "Glory of God". The last chapter of the Shrimad Bhagwad of the Hindu Scripture states: "Vishnu Yasha will possess great energy, intelligence and prowess .... He will restore order and peace in this world .... Man in general will begin to honor and practice truth."[1]
