(I do not know why you placed this in the dog category. I hoping this was an error. I know we all make mistakes. To answer your questions is below. )

There is no precise figure for the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust. The figure commonly used is the six million quoted by Adolf Eichmann, a senior SS official. Most research confirms that the number of victims was between five and six million. Early calculations range from 5.1 million (Professor Raul Hilberg) to 5.95 million (Jacob Leschinsky).

I hope this helps. :)

many of the concentration camps kept lists of the 'prisoners', how old they were, where they were from, the date they died and how. So I can only assume the number 6 million was an estimate from these records, most of which still exist today. Don't forget there were a hell of alot of concentration camps auschwich especically which killed well over 1 million people. But I suppose with many jews being killed outside of concentration camps it's impossible to put an exact number on the deaths. But I do know that in Poland, the Kazimierz district held the brunt of Polands Jewish residents, with thousand and thousand living in that area, today there are less that 100 still existing there.

Too many, and the ones that pointed out that it wasn't just Jews are correct. I was deprived of ever knowing my grandmother by those SOB's. She was neither Jew, Gypsies, homosexual or even different. She died because a Nazi woman refused to sell milk to a "polish b****". It was for my mom who was an infant at that time. My grandmother took the milk and threw the money on the counter. That night they came for her. She knew they most likely would and had prepared my aunt, who was 14, to take the other children (6 of them) and run. They ultimately ended up in an orphanage and separated. My mom didn't see my aunt again until 30 years later. And she has only found one other brother. So sad all those people died out of pure hate and ignorance. The irony of it all is grandpa was an airman in the war and grandma wasn't Polish but was actually German.

I don't know why you posted it in this category, am sure it was just an accident, but thought I'd share that story so people could see it really was Lot's of different people, not just Jews.

I could be wrong, but I believe that there were between 5 and 6 million PEOPLE killed at concetration camps during WWII, and not all of them were Jewish. The nazis did not just persecute against Jews, they were opposite to anything that they believed was wrong in their eyes. In fact, another ethnic group that is rarely even metioned when talking about WWII were the Gypsies. Many people do not believe that Gypsies are anything other than furtune tellers that travel with the carnivals, but they are in fact a race of people that are find throught the Middle East. After the Nazis went after the Gypsies and Jews, they also went after prostitutes, nd anything else they did not feel was PURE. However, the other question still remains, why are you posting this in the Dog catagory?

OK, everyone, I think this was an honest mistake--almost all of Gunnar's focus is in the Dogs section and he gave a nice answer as to what to name someone's dog.

Gunnar--there were about 6 million Jews killed during World War II. In addition to that, as mentioned, large numbers of gypsies, homosexuals and others whom the Nazis considered to be "sub-human" were slaughtered.
