Do you ever feel like the middle children of the religious debate? Fundamentalist Christians accuse us of not spreading the word diligently enough, non-Christians still view us as the enemy for supposedly thinking they'll be damned to hell, and atheists still think we're stupid and delusional because we believe in God.

Do you ever feel this way? Do you ever feel this way within your own church?

You need to realize that the terms "liberal" and "moderate" have nothing to do with whether or not we accept Christ as our savior.

Yep.
We occupy a rather sacred space...not too much unlike Jesus, really. The Super-Christians who speak much and listen little denounce us just like the Pharisees, the Disbelievers decry our assistance just like the Saducees and here we are, just trying to be faithful.
I feel like that in Church, in the Seminary where I teach and, often, with my friends. **sigh** So much for diversity.

Yes. Liberal Christian here. I'm accused by the more hardcore members of my denomination of being too into "modernism". Meanwhile, there are plenty of people, both religious and non-religious, who still believe that all Christians are Fundamentalists, which gets really old at times. Some people also suggest that liberal/moderate Christians are somehow not "real" Christians. A lot of the hate mail I get off this site comes from other Christians who think I'm not following the party line correctly. But I believe what I believe, and refuse to back down. I refuse to be an intolerant bigot just because some people believe that, as a Christian, I have to be that way.

To a point yes! But there's a big misunderstanding about who the Body Of Christ is. We consist of all types of people, some laid back, some aggressive, some liberal, some non, and each one of us is REQUIRED and important to make the BODY whole. None less important.
They act like we popped out of a little mold. The "Christan" mold... and we are God's Robots. LOL ..We are as diverse and original as anyone else, with varying interests, passions and life experiences. I find it annoying, because it would be lunacy for my to suggest all atheists are the same... uneducated, grew up in atheist homes.. cant think for themselves, yet we get stereo typed ALL the time.
Oh well as long as I know God knows what's up... It makes all the other stuff trivial!
God bless... take care!

Because I have found the original teachings of Jesus I don't fit into those categories. Only a few understand the actual teachings of Jesus because of King Constantine who changed the original Bible. He took out everything to do with karma, reincarnation, and he made hell a place to go eternally. He added Paul's teachings who never even met Jesus and he taught slavery and animal slaughter. If you are interested in Lord Jesus original teachings not the ancient Roman Governments version then google gospelofthenazirenes.com The Gospel of The Nazirenes is the original New Testament which was hidden by the original followers of Jesus (the Essenes)Thy had to hid it from the evil hands of Constantine who was burning the originals, which was easy to do back then because only the higher ups in the church and government had copies and women couldn't read. The truth will set you free.

No I do not feel like that at my church. I am an engineer and have been heavily schooled in Science, especially physics. And I still have my faith. I generally don't believe we are to devote ourselves to a specific religion. Religion is a teaching of the translation of the Bible and Faith. I don't believe any one religion is "the right" religion. I go to church knowing that I have a vast understanding of the world through the eyes of science, but with my faith in God. For the "atheists", I refer to the many great minds that believe in religion. Such as the great philosophers of ancient Greece, as well as Einstein. Science explains how things work in our universe, it cannot answer "why" they work. This where religion fits in.

Einstein's quote: "science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. "

nicely, to an excellent type of Christians, i could in all probability be seen extremely "liberal," despite if to many i'm going to look extremely conservative. So i assume it relies upon on what precisely you mean via "liberal/average." in any case, I truthfully be attentive to the place you're coming from. I grew up in a small city interior the South the place being a "Christian" became into basically understood. And that entailed having stable "morals" (no eating, cussing, etc.) besides the fact that, by using coaching at my cutting-edge church, alongside with my very own learn of the Bible (some thing I in no way did becoming up), i've got come to realize that lots of those conservative church homes are legalistic, and legalism is incredibly asserting that Christ isn't adequate. Now, i'm so saddened via an excellent type of the church homes in my homestead city because of the fact they have exchange into extra fascinated in following legalistic custom and gave thrown the Gospel aside, alongside with the desire to love and serve others. All of that to declare, I now attend a Southern Baptist church. i be attentive to the connotations that contain that label, yet have self belief me, my church is like no different SB church i've got ever been to. however the suited concern approximately my church is that the church physique and the management is maximum fascinated in being each and on a daily basis introduced on via the Gospel and serving others. So i could say that fending off church is definitely no longer the respond. the main serious concern which you're able to do is come across a church that preaches and lives out the Gospel because of the fact is the commencing place of our faith. i'm unsure the place you're placed, yet i could motivate you to objective your very suited to discover a church that does those issues.

I used to. But I didn't stay there long.

From your 360 profile it looks like you're ending up on the end of the spectrum that lots off scientists and philosophers end up on (deism). I was headed in the same direction and realized that the god that isn't much more than a first cause isn't really much of an explanation beyond the what science accounts for.

Good luck on your journey. I think its great that you are willing to let reason and evidence lead you where it might. It is easy to just stay with comfortable positions rather than to give it the continual thought and searching it deserves.

I will try not to go into detail here because I've done that too
many times and noone seems to understand. I have quit
going to church because they are preaching politics and
setting a standard that everyone must believe and follow ,most
of which is strictly unbiblical and even unGodly. I believe there
is no true church here on earth anymore. I believe there are
true believers, but we follow our love for Jesus in secret and have no formal services. I love the Lord with all my heart, but
will never darken the doorstep of a church again.

Definitely. I'm getting ready to fight a malestrom in my supposedley "moderate" southern baptist church by recommending that we start allowing for women to take on the role of deacon. Further, I have no major problems with evolution (at least on some levels) and believe God's ways are his ways. My sentiments have put me in the firing line of other Christians, atheists, traditionalists, and just about anyone. I don't even follow the entire platform of the pro-life movement. Thanks for letting me know I'm not always alone.
