How many dui's is someone allowed to get? This guy is not illegal he was arrested on dui tonight. How many dui's can a person get before being sent off to the big house. I cannot see how he is walking free after the 4rh-5th-6th-7th-8th-now 9th dui. What is the limit on dui's . 9 dui's sounds like 9 to many. The cops who arrested him said he is well known at the station. On the way to jail he fell asleep on the way to jail. What is the highest record of one person obtaining a dui-

I arrested a guy for his fourth DUI in under 5 months. His license was suspended but he was still in court on the first arrest.

He was in the newspaper whining about how the police picked on him all the time. You should have read the article. Damn police! Harassing that poor man! He hadn't even killed anyone yet!

When he does eventually kill someone, Damn Police! Why didnt' they do something!

I have actually heard of people being charged with more DUI's before, but convictions are sometimes not forthcoming in every case,so he may have been charged with DUI 9 times but were some of them plea bargained to a lesser offense? It happens,I know that,I even know a couple of people who have been arrested when they were hammered drunk, but they were willing to spend the money on a good lawyer, and the state ended up making a deal rather than spending scarce resources dealing with a DUI case. There was also one case I read about in Orange county California where prosecutors were seeking a life sentence for a man convicted of his fifth DUI. One reason this is often not dealt with as it should be is an overburdened court, after all in addition to all the DUI cases we also have to use the courts resources to send all the people to jail who the government busts for non- violent drug offenses, which is by all accounts the largest single share of court business. Guess it's all about priorities, and no one seems to have decided what's a higher priority yet. But I can't help but mention that I blame things like this directly on the "war on drugs". After all since we started that under Reagan, rates of case solution and conviction in almost all other areas have gone down. We now solve fewer of our murders than every other civilized country in the world for example. We after all only have the resources to deal with so much, unless of course we're ready to double our taxes to build more jails and such. I do find it funny though that we have the largest prison population on the planet and still can't keep some of our worst off the streets.

One is a stupid mistake, two is a habit. nine you just don't care and should not be walking free. I have alot of opinions on this subject especailly is a death is involved but nine DUI's you really should just rot in prison. That person has never and will never be rehibilitated, and it is just a matter of time before they kill someone or a family it's stupid. They have no regard for the law and never will and when we finally start enforcing it maybe someone will wake up.

As for the record I think I heard somewhere someone had over 20 cant be sure though

This is one of those questions that has two sides (and different options besides jail) when it is a first offence or when there is a death is involved I wont bore you with my idea of how it should be handled when its your question

I am sure some have more. The thing with a DUI, a good lawyer, or a lawyer who "knows" a judge can perhaps reduce certain things. But also, and I give no sympathy to the DUI driver, but there is a difference between 9 infractions in one year, and 9 infractions in 25 years, but in this case, unsure of the details. Basically, if the dude has money, chances are he will buy his way out of it! Also, if there are many DUIs over many many years, there is a statute of limitations as to where it does fall off your record, at least driving record!

I'm not a lawyer, but as far as the penalty's go for DUI's, it
all depends on what state the person is living in. Each state has their own laws. But a guy who has 8 DUI's, is obviously driving around without a license. And the only way you can make sure a person doesn't drive THEIR car, is to hookup some kind of breath test to the ignition of the car.

I heard of one guy who had 13 DUI's before he finally killed somebody, and of course he wasn't hurt badly. Go figure.

I don't know the answer to your question but I know of a case in Ohio where they had to get creative to get such a driver off the road for a long time.

About 8 years ago, the 12 year old son of a friend of mine was hit by a drunk driver who left him lying on the side of the road and fled the scene. It was witnessed by a police trooper who gave pursuit and apprehended him. The boy had a spinal cord injury and became a paraplegic.

The driver had at least 5 DUI convictions and had done two stints in jail for driving without a licence. The local prosecutor was so outraged that they couldn't keep this guy off the road that he vowed to finally do so. So he charged the driver with attempted murder.

He argued in court that the driver had to know the danger of driving drunk and dispite repeated arrests had continued to do so and that this behavior was identical to someone shooting a gun at random into a crowd of people.

The jury agreed and convicted the guy and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

So it is possible to actually not injure, harm or damage ANYONE and still be a criminal, nine times even. If anything that person broke the contract of a drivers license and should pay his monetary penalty and be on his way.

I drove down the street the other day, sober of course, and I didn't hurt anyone either just like that person and our outcomes were exactly the same yet he is threatened with jail/prison. What gives! How about punishment for someone who actually damages or hurts someone or something.

is the guy famous... that might have a lot to do with it.
I've known a guy that was put in jail for 45 days for his second dui... and then disappeared for 6 months on his 3rd. He doesn't have a drivers license anymore... and I don't know if that stopped him or not.

I think 5 is mandatory prison in WI. I did hear of a man getting his 9th in Fond Du Lac WI on a golf course a couple years ago. He said he thought he was in a park.
I have not had one and plan on keeping it that way.
There was also an Illinois couple that was pulled over and ticketed 3 times in less then an hour for speeding in excess of 100 mph near the Milwaukee area (65 limit) a few years back. Twice for the man and then she took the drivers seat. Likewise someone dropped the ball there as well
