The correct answer is number two. Academically speaking, it is correct. In practice, at least with Viet Nam and now with Iraq, it takes the politicians a few years to catch up with public sentiment. In time, public opinion will affect political will and that will affect politicians and that will affect military policy (gee, almost sounds like a domino effect).

The Domino Theory is not a military tactic. It is a political theory that stands for the proposition that if one country goes a particular way, its neighbor is likely to follow suit. It was a big theory in the 1950's and '60's.

Advanced technology does not ensure victory. Insurgents always fight from a technological disadvantage.

We can rule out number 4 because we did not use tactical nukes.

none of the above...perhaps if answer 2) were reworded to read...in a democracy, popular opinion will impact the effectiveness of it's military during time of war. then i would say 2)

the US should stop involving itself in stupid little conflicts that do not concern it and that it cannot win on the other side of the world. Noone can stand agasint the full force of the US so they dont bother. They simply mount ongoing terrorist campaigns at street level for ever and ever. Look and learn.

Well, of your 4 choices, #2 comes the closest. However, the U.S. is NOT a democracy, never has been, probably never will be. It is a Republic, with Representatives allegedly doing our bidding. (Not that has ever happened that I can recall.)
