My brother is currently at the Naval Academy, and I'm a junior in high school that is beginning my application. I'm curious about becoming a lawyer in the Navy and was wondering if anybody had any information on the subject. What are the benefits of being a JAG, how hard or selective is it and how what that work if you graduate from the Naval Academy?

Any information on JAGs, I'd be interested in.

I think maybe 1% of Acadamy Grads get selected to go JAG. all the rest go SWO, Aviation and the other Line communities.. JAG is a Staff Community,a nd they have different pre requisites.. like already having the Law degree in hand.

A JAG Officer is just another job in the military. I don't know why you would expect to get special treatment. If you attend the US Naval Academy, you will go to plebe summer, as is the same with any other academy. After you graduate, still have to apply, attend and graduate from law school. THEN you will become a JAG Officer. Why do you want to go to the Navy, specifically? Seen "A Few Good Men" too many times? Every branch has JAG Officers. You should check out the individual job needs for each branch and see which one gives you the best chance to become a JAG. Specifically, check out the Army's and Marine Corps' needs... they may be swallowing up people with law degrees! Also, service academies are not the only way to receive a commission and become an officer. Do ROTC in college... it is easier AND a lot more fun than an academy. You also have a lot more flexibility if you later decide the military is not right for you.
